Hope hes gonna be okay.
I wonder if Direct Merger is the same Direct Merger I followed at Moreton Morrell in 2002 then ridden by Michael Jackson

Looking at the results, all of the tracks caused loads of trouble with good horses like Dobbin and Theodore O'connor having eliminations and refusals.

Very sad news - I dont know what will become of eventing - non-horsey people are horrified at the deaths and horrific injuries suffered by both riders and horses, even at "low-level" events. I think Eventing people are horrified as well but choose not to dwell on it too much as they are passionate about the sport, which does seem to easily become an obsession. Forgive me if this sounds a bit weird but I have just suffered the loss of my horse on a XC course.

Two horses were also killed (1 in a fall and 1 collapsed) at this event.

The course was designed by Hugh Lochore who's done quite a few courses here obviously. I wonder what the problem was with the course?

Fingers crossed for Darren.

I posted on the 1st thread about Darrne's accident and made a reference to the 2 horses that died. The temps were around 26C / 78F at midday with 90% humidity. Think forward to Hong Kong this summer. The horse that "fell" according to some people who were fence side when it happened said the horse was struggling BEFORE it fell and hit it's head one of the elements, seemed to convulse then lurch forward and clobber it's head on the fence. Both horses I believe will have an autopsy. Several riders also withdrew before x-country.
