Hi I have a 14.1 5 yr old dartmoor X cob/section D and wondered what jumping ability he could do? Can this type of horse be good at jumping? I am just wondering as I am just styarting some tiny jumps with him and would like to build up gradually to higher ones when he gets older and wondered if he would be able to do this? what are peoples dartmoor/cobs like at jumping?

Never had any experience with dartmoors, but here is my old cob, he could take the world on. Very heavy horse with big cobby legs, but super super jump in him.

Yep - my dartmoor had a fantastic jump in her - I used to win a lot of kiddies classes as a child.

My gypsy mare clear 3' no problem and Chancer on the lunge now pops 2' with tonnes to spare and next year I hope to start him with ridden jumps.

Old Cairo, though a clydesdale also popped over 3' no problem and loved his jumping - in his later years he was the 2'3 SJ champion at our local club - not the fastest but always in the top 3 as constantly clear every time.

My section A jumped out of the school when I loose schooled her - the fence was the same height as her ears so Welshies can def jump when they want to!!

Myold 14.2hh cob (now owned by BobletLeCoblet on here) used to hunt with me and regularly clear 5 bar gates on his own out his field, and was reknowned for his hedge jumping abilities in Derbyshire (5ft hedges)!

My friend's cob became a Grade B showjumper in his younger days and at 36 can still clean up at local shows!! (Similar looking to RosiiePimms piccy)

Ah thankyou, he was a real world beater, one of the most genuine horses I have ever met, so friendly and honest, not a bad bone in his body, I miss him sooo much!

My 9.2hh Shetland Jumps 2' with ease!!! Absoloutly loves it! nothing will stop her if theres something to jump, even if theres no reason to jump it e.g. shes on a loose rope and its a block that could easily be dodged (now i just need to find a rider small enough that can also jump that height! hehe

) I know a clysedale that jumps 4'6 with ease too

Course cobs can jump, my welsh d was good at puisance, used to beat horses twice his size. I think the highest I dared to jump him over was 4'9 and I'm a nervous wreck when it comes to jumping. He loved jumping, but at normal show jumping rounds, he couldn't pick up the speed in the jump off, so really was better suited to xc.

My first pony and I miss him so much
