There was a really good debate going on last night about Dartmoor Hill ponies but it seems to have been pulled?

Anyone know why?

PS: apologies if this has already been highlighted :o

Did it turn nasty?
It didnt seem to be when i read it last night.

The people involved with the charity posted something about their reception on here (I think, or at least something similar). Cue outraged people on the facebook page calling HHO forum heartless, stuck up, snobs etc etc, and some joined and posted on the thread about what horrible human beings we all are, and that we all own tb's and warmbloods and that even the thought of a native makes us feel sick (well, they didn't say that, but you get the gist!) It all turned pretty nasty pretty quickly, as it was bound to, in the vein of franch rescue. Hence the banning I'm guessing.

Beats me how these ponies are still being bred as the owners are not making much out of it. Is it just sheer laziness? Reports about folks driving their ponies to markets and then just leaving them are unbelievable really... lets face it, gas is not cheap and time is money.

My opinion, geld all the stallions, prohibit 'Hill Ponies' running on the moor adding random genes and concentrate on the true Dartmoor breed.

'Ok so shoot me down but if we stop sending these ponies to slaughter then what are we going to feed the animals in the zoo.'

Mmmm raises the question about large carnivores being kept in n zoos in the first place, of course, ponies are the natural diet for these creatures, there's huge herds of Darties wandering around the serenghetti :)

Not a nice ending for the ponies...geld and start concentrating on decent bloodlines, Dartmoor Hill Ponies are a pretty random type, not a breed...just like the Vanners and Gypsy Cobs.

Mine came through the sales, I understand what hope are trying to do, but they are hard work. Work that I don't think most people would want to do. If they go through the sales at least they have an end if they are sold for meat, and don't end up being passed from one person to another, because they can't handle them. As I have said before maybe we have been lucky with our 2, ours win all the time inhand, the photos which I have seen of the ones this year are not as good shall we say. Overbreeding is a problem with all horses, not just the Dartmoor hill ponies. On a side note I also have warmbloods, friesians and a few inbreed welsh sec d as well as the hill ponies, am I still classed as stuck up and heartless lol
