Anyone know any good locations in dartmoor national park to go see them? obviously they move but are there any places that they tend to congregate?
thanks!
There is a picnic park near Two Bridges, that ponies hang out - but you will not see too many Dartmoors. They are mostly Shetland X's.......... Devon County would be the best place!
if you go up on the moor just above Tavistock there are loads of Dartmoor Hill ponies, and also up by us at Belstone (on the north moors) there are a herd of them, loads up above Okehampton at the army camp. Whereabuts are you based? Dartmoor Hill ponies are actually a far older breed than the registered Dartmoors, which were only established in the 1800's by importing arab and welsh blood into the dartmoor hill poinies to create childrens riding ponies. There is actually eveidence to suggest that the dartmoor hill ponies (including coloureds) were here in Henry VIII's time.
