Well I carted the whole family over to meet Dash the whippet today and it went really well. We met in a dog park and I let Susie the JRT off the lead straight away because she is always more aggressive on lead. Dash came over wagging and said hi, she leapt towards him and snapped her teeth together loudly by his ear  so he backed off and showed her enough respect that by the end of 15 minutes she would sniff noses with him happily - much better reaction than I had anticipated :):)

I started off with Oscar on a lead which was basically unnecessary because he was so kn*****ed from the long walk he had first thing that he had no energy to bounce  Once Dash decided he was getting no fun from Susie he came to say hi to Oscar and they had a long bum sniffing session then I threw a frisbee for them and they hooned around like mad things playing tag (and totally ignoring the frisbee which I had to fetch. Dogs, I ask you - who'd have 'em!). Then an on-heat retriever bitch came in and Dash (who only had the snip 2 weeks ago) got all excited - and so did Oscar (who lost his bits nearly a decade ago and should know better ) but they were perfectly happy to share :o Then Dash showed his brains by figuring out how to open the gate and follow the hot retreiver home

At this point we took them on a bit of a walk together on lead (a bit backwards I know but we went with the behaviour of the dogs and what seemed right at the time) and Susie walked happily next to Dash until we met some scary swans that needed a sharp stare from Susie to put them in their place :p at which point they hissed at her and she legged it between my legs nearly sending me onto the floor in a heap!

Next we went back to Dash's house and he was totally relaxed with both dogs and us in his space. He was really gentle with my son too and very cuddly with his foster mum's children. I'm so thrilled it went so well - far better than I expected and the photos of him on the rescue website totally don't do justice to how gorgeous he is :D I just keep having to pinch myself because I expected to have to wait months to find the right dog and here he is after just a couple of weeks. He won't be coming to live with us until the end of the month after we have a week with the inlaws so he can have a more settled start to life in Oxfordshire. This may well be a very long 3 weeks :(

If anyone can tell me how to post it I have a bit of video of them on Photobucket.........

And if you reached the end without dying of boredom have a choccie biccy on me :D
