Date in passport - question

I sent my horses passport off for change of ownership (long over due as I bought him months ago) recieved it back today and they put a date on it (from a few days ago) despite me filling in the date of purchase. I am just wondering why they put that date as he was not bought on that date.
Just curious incase I come to sell him that they may think I am lying if I said I bought him in April and the date on the passport says October.

i'm not sure, just hazarding a guess, but maybe they have to go with a recent date so that people can't make up whatever date they want to put on the passport.
they could make it look like they've had a horse for years even tho they haven't?
 
Merlins passport is dated 2006 and I bought him in 2004..... So I would look like a right Liar then...

I think people would have to accept that a passport is not a birth certificate and believe you

I am sure there are other ways to convince people that you have had the horse longer...
 
Then why do they ask for the date of purchase?
Or not ask for a reciept of purchase or something else to such as an email from the previous owner to have the real date put down?
Like I said although it is only a few months does make me wonder people may think I didn't actually buy him until october.
 
The Horse Passport Agency. I bought a pony in Oct 06 but didn't register ownership until Jan 08 online. The owners who I had purchased the pony from had only handwritten their details in as the second registered keeper and apparantly never officially notified the passport agency of the change.I received an email reply saying thankyou for you registration of change of ownership from Oct 06 but they had to contact the previous owner. They advised that I print the email & keep it as a record. I Later received a label stating change of ownership Jan 08. I now understand that if you buy a horse/pony from some one who has registered them with the passport agency, then you will recieve a label stating you as the next registered keeper. If you purchase a horse/pony from someone (like I did) although they gave me the passport they had only hand written their ownership details onto the passport & then the passport agency contacted the last registered owners to verify they had sold it to the person whom I had purchased it from. I was then informed by the passport agency to place my ownership label over the top of the handwritten details of the buyer (therfore I was the second registered owner) I had purchased from. They are only interested in keeping accurate details of the official registered owners and not those owners inbetween perhaps who may have had ownership of the horse/pony but never offically registered themselves as the owners. Sorry it is dated in September I put the wrong month down, wasn't having the best day!

All his previous owners has registred the change of ownership as it is stampted within his passport.
