Daughter and Dolly - a jumping pic!!!!

Awww fab fab!!
You could always go back through the old posts from HHO and see how far they (and your nerves!) have come!!

Looking brilliant

Oh Kelly, I don't need to do that when I have you to remind me!!!

Thanks chuck!!!

Couldn't have gotten here without the likes of you for support.

Rummy mango cocktaily thingy with brolly and cherry for you!!!

:D

Thanks!!!

They're very well suited! Both can be grumpy and bite your head off, but tend to always do their best and give things their all.

Both cost a fortune in upkeep too!!!

Oh and as for the matchy matchy business, considering daughter is a bit of a tomboy and totally not interested in clothes, makeup - probably wouldn't even brush her hair if I didn't make her, god help me if I leave socks out that don't match whatever jods and numnah we happen to have chosen to use today!!! Got too much to choose from that child!!! :p

Hope she doesn't read this!! lol !!!! :D

Ha you had better hope or you will pay by having to get more matchy stuff :D. Glad they are both happy though and look forward to many more happy updates filled with pics and videos :D:D.

Ignore the troll above I'm sure they will be banned soon

Is it just me, or has the post from the charming muppet disappeared from page one of this thread??

If someone reported this, thank you. And thank you if TFC removed it.

Means I can show my daughter this thread now and she can feel proud at your lovely comments.

Thanks!! Think they're gone already!

Daughter's also a bit obsessed with having her name embroidered on stuff!! Found a great (cheap!) place to do it too, so could be worse!!

:D

I'm so glad you posted this, I thought I was going mad, lol!:D

Daughter and Dolly are doing brilliantly, well done to all of you, you've come a very long way in a short time.

Well done to you all. I really look forward to reading your threads!

My daughter never got into the pony thing so I missed out on your experiences! Now I know what I missed. :D

Keep us updated!

Yay! They look AMAZING!!

If you buy a big hardback plain paged book (paperchase has awesome ones) and get your daughter to chose her four favourite photos (that was my mum's limitations when we were little) and any dressage sheets copied out again and get her to write her own little caption summing up the month. My sister and I used to do this and looking back now is amazing, and very cute. A top caption from my sister aged 8 was "jumping Lucy! I only fell off 4 times! She was lovely and good"... Also from me "got lost and jumped the big jump backwards. No one noticed, came 4th!".

what a lovely lovely post and happy smiles and pricked ears to- so so glad you relaxing ( and hey we all worry about our little ones on ponies lol) but your daughter looks happy and dolly sounds the perfect understanding giving pony - hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee hugs from a once worried mum( daughter now at 22 will get on anything and all down to her first pony teaching her to ride fall jump get trodden on, dragged - do i continue but best best pony ever lol) - well done you xxxxx

I hope no one has been being nasty about my fave pony and rider combo - I have had a big glass of wine and my date has gone home, I am ready for a FIGHT in lieu of other outlets for my energy... put-em up, troll-features!:mad::mad:

Matchy matchy is looking good, and may I also post in envy of your daughter's leg position in the second picture, as a habitual toe-sticker-outer, I am jealous indeed:D

Thank you!

Got to say, I love it all! It's given us something we can really share together (although I seem to get the "work" portion of the sharing!) and we spend so much more quality time together now. Someone said to me a while ago, "what will you do when she doesn't need your help anymore!" and I said "get my own pony, then she can help me"!!!

Love it! :D

Looking great. Nice to see no flash, no martingale and a smiley child with a great position!

Thanks!!!

Nope, no gadgets for us!! She's still in the straight bar pelham, and many people said it would be good to get her in a snaffle (which she did use a few times, and for her dressage test recently) but a few very experienced people have said it's better to keep her in the pelham and have brakes she can count on, than in the snaffle and have her yanking away at Dolly's mouth (not that she does that, but just in case).

And I think with her doing a little bit faster work at the moment (like the learning to jump) we'll stop in the pelham for a while longer.

If it aint broke don't fix it and all that.

:)

What a lovely idea! I did buy her a "my first pony" scrapbook when we got Dolly, but she's been too busy riding to write in it!!!

At least we have our photos to track the passage of time. It's quite obvious when I scroll through them, at what point daughter started being the boss and Dolly started listening to her. And her growing about half a foot helped too!!!

Dolly's definately one of those ponies who likes to be told what to do (well most of the time). I think the problem in the early days is that daughter was used to very experienced and well behaved riding school ponies, who she could just sit on and they'd do what they were supposed to. Then she got on Dolly and Dolly was like "well if you don't know what we're doing, then I'll decide!!!".

I'm sure that's quite common with ponies!! :D

they're looking great!

a neck strap (use a spare stirrup leather) might just help daughter to keep her balance without hanging on Dolly's mouth. Not to say that she it, but it stops a habit developing!

Thanks!

You know, when we first got Dolly, she did a very small clear round (fell off at 2nd jump!) and she had a neckstrap on for that. Now daughter hadn't jumped before, but insisted on having a go (against my advice!) so we weren't surpised that she popped off.

But she blamed it a lot on the neckstrap. She said she just really didn't like it and felt that she'd been looking at it and not holding her reins right. She said she'd never use one again!!!

So I don't know whether to suggest that to her now or not. Perhaps a chunk of mane if need be, would work too???

:)

They're doing FAB together now! So nice to see them so happy together! I love your updates, they are a perfect little team! :)

Thanks!!!

I'm so proud of them, and can't believe you lot here have been helping me for over a year now!!

We've had Dolly a year next month, which means this time last year I was posting:

"HELP!!! Should I buy my daughter a pony"!!!! Oooooo I remember it well!!!

:D

Lovely to see such big smiles on their faces :) I do hope she has red boots on or the matchiness is not complete ;) Super relaxed rider, too! Brilliant and so glad they came through.

Thanks!!

Errrrm do black boots count?? We have the whole black and red thing going on at the moment!!! Daughter has designed online a set of black and red pony racing silks which she would like for Christmas (major £££££!!!!) and a treeless black and red saddle seems to have appeared in "watching items" on my ebay account!!!

.....runs off to ebay for red boots!!!

:D

Thank you babymare!

Yes, I'm much better now. Perhaps the alcohol (and ridiculous coloured cocktails!!) has dimmed my senses over the past year! There have been a few "OMG get me the wine!!!" evenings along the way!!

Dolly has taught daughter so much. Including how to avoid getting bitten, how to treat pony like a pony, and not like a teddy, how to stay on when pony flies at the gate/wall/door/other ponies etc....., how to sit bucks when pony didn't want to canter at first etc.....and honestly, she's a much better rider for it.

An instructor said to me recently (when Dolly was being a poo, and throwing a major tantrum!) "that's how you ride" pointing at daughter. She said it's not about sitting pretty on a perfect pony - it's about staying on and winning a battle of wills when pony it misbehaving! It was such a huge compliment, especially considering daughter had flailing arms and legs everywhere in an effort to keep Dolly from diving to the right when asking for canter on the left!!!

:D

What a lovely post :D and so nice to see more pictures of your lovely daughter and her lovely pony looking so happy together. Wohooo with the jumping they are looking so fab together and I love the red ears Herbie has some just the same :D

Thanks re daughter's leg position - she's ok with her toes but still gets many shouts of "heels down"!!!

Love hearing from you! Been with us from the beginning!! :D
