Hi everyone!

Well I don't know if you'll remember, but in a recent thread, I was getting my knickers into a twist about what shows to take D & D too - I was having a small panic because I thought it might be their last proper competing year together, and I wanted them to have the best time.

A few of you had a kind word with me (a very gentle kick up the bum I think! :p) and firstly told us not to aim so high (because in all honesty, Dolly isn't "that" sort of quality for a pony) and second told us to have fun! Which really, is what we needed. Also daughter's instructor advised us to do RC events, so I took them both to a riding club SJ event this weekend.

The weather was very kind, and the ground was fantastic. Which was good, as it was D & Ds first time jumping on grass

The organisers of the event were lovely, and held my worried little hand until I knew where to point D & D! At which point I left them to it and had some chocolate!

Dolly actually was a little b***er on the ground. She normally has quite good manners, but seemed to forget them from the minute she saw her travel gear on Sunday morning! We have a certain rug and headcollar for travelling and once she sees them, she knows she's going out. So when I appeared early on Sunday morning with them she tried to barge me out of the stable!!!!:eek: Once we'd got her back in line (ahem ;)) she led us to the van and loaded us!!!

At the show she just wouldn't stand still. There were a few flies but I think she just wanted to PLAY!!!!!!!

Anyway, daughter went into the clear round and, went clear! :) yey!! Got a LOVELY big orange rosette! The nice lady on the gate said "this little girl offered to go first, give her the biggest rosette"!!! Awww :)

Onto the novice jumping class (70cm I think). It was a nice course with a few questions (hahahaha listen to me, been watching Badminton all weekend ) but the jumps were lovely quality and a nice big course. OH got some lovely photos (see below!)!

Dolly was quite strong but Daughter said she felt under control and was really happy to go clear again. There was 14 in the class (mixed juniors and seniors) and 6 went through to the jump off.

Daughter went first (again!) and went clear! She did ever so slightly touch a pole and we gasped when it landed back in it's cups. PHEW!!!! :p It was a really good round, and although she was quick, she didn't bomb it. It was a nice sensible steady pace. I was really proud of them, and hopeful they'd be in the rosettes (due to there only being 6 of them).

Anyway, they called out the placings, and THEY WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEY!!!!!!!! AND they only went and qualified for the North West SJ Championships!!! (I didn't even know it was a qualifer!) I was expecting them to split the class, but they didn't - perhaps they don't under a certain number of entries.

It was funny to see Little Dolly at the front of their lap of honour with the big ones keeping up behind her! Awwww they did so well and I was sooooooo proud!!!!

Anyway, you were all right! Days like the above are not going to happen if I push them out of their comfort zone (and to be honest, I thought the above was out of their comfort zone due to Dirty Stop Dolly!) they were planning on doing the next class, but daughter said that as Dolly hadn't refused anything, or had a pole down (just!) she was going to take her home rather than risk denting her confidence by having "a problem" at a higher course. I couldn't agree more.

I'm thinking of taking them to the championships though, and would love to hear from anyone who has been (it's in Cheshire). I know it might be up another level, but they did earn it and the first class is 1 foot 9 inches I think. Sounds like rosettes to all, and a gift to all entrants, so even if they struggle it sounds like it could be a nice day! Thoughts?

Anyway here's the photos.....

(not bombing it, not at all mum!)

Love this photo, Dolly finally looks tired!

And this one!!!

Thank you everyone, for always steering us in the right direction. It was a lovely day and I'm so glad I took them!!! Dolly seemed to enjoy herself!!! :D

I have a big bag of pretzels which are very moorish and some fanta fruit twist! Sorry it's not my usual wine and good grub! I'm on my work lunch hour and I've ate everything :o

:D:D:D

Looking at the pictures there's a lot I can learn from Daughter re my position :o and I'm the wrong side of 40 !

She's so sensible as well re not going up the next height as she's already gone very well and doesn't want to knock their confidence.

Why not go to the Championship show ? I think it would be a great day out for all of you and certainly deserve to be there.

Just think, not so long ago you were posting about maybe getting a pony but not sure if it was the right thing to do......................

:D

I love your updates. And how mature and sensible is Daughter for recognising that finishing on a good note is really important. Well done D&D :D

Aw they look deadly and very happy! I love the bridle on Dolly, really suits her. Daughter so wise and such a lovely position. Well done. Love D+D updates!

Lovely pics and daughter looks so happy when she is riding. Thats what its all about - the rosettes are just the icing on the cake. Super well done to both! xxxxx

Woo well done!!
On the championship front, it is a lovely show if a bit buzzier than a normal RC show. They do however really jazz up the jumps with fillers and dressings, so if you are on a spooky horse (which I was) then it makes for a challenging round! On the plus side I didn't feel they made the jumps huge so I think height wise you should be fine.
Its about having fun at the end of the day x

Lovely report :-) They look really fantastic together.

Definitely go to the Championships, it will be gr8 fun & good experience.

Let us know how you get on. Good luck to D&D x

I did the north west champs but it was a looooong time ago(1997) so I'm sure they have changed. When I did them they were a south view. The warm up class had over 80 entries as did the championship class. I was lucky enough to win the warm up and come 2nd in the championship...quite an achievement for my last year as a junior riding my games pony against all the jumping ponies. I only remember one junior class that was 2ft6 in first round of warm up then 2ft9 jump off. In the chorion ship a couple of the fences were around 3ft.

Fab update. I love how your daughter always looks happy, even when she is concentrating. You should be very proud (I know you are) to have such a considerate daughter, she obviously loves that pony and much as she enjoys competing is always thinking of Dolly and whats best for her. So lovely to see and hear as sadly, is so often not the case and the ponies are just little rosette factories.. Dolly looks amazing, almost unrecognisable from when she first arrived, a proper, sleek little pony, happy face and pricked ears over those fences, she really enjoys her jumping doesnt she. Good advice youve been given I would say, let them enjoy themselves whilst they can, daughter is growing fast isnt she and you wont stop that!!

Well done to all of you, the photos are fab.

I don't think your daughter looks as if she's getting too tall for Dolly just yet, I'm sure she will still be competing on her next summer, and don't forget all the winter stuff you can do and indoor arenas!

:D :D :D Go D&D!!

Definitely go to the championships, they've got all summer to brush up their confidence with outings like that and it'll be such a 'red letter event' that even if it goes wrong they'll have those lovely memories. Al qualified for the PC champs and we knew they would never place, and the mare was another dirty stopper so getting round the XC could be interesting. They went and it all went wrong, but it's still a cherished memory :)

Wow that pony can jump sounds like a fab day.
Is the champs held at bridgewater if its the same one its a fab day out we were lucky enough to get placed and the rosette was the size of my boy head haha jumps were great aswell we had jumped there all summer so he was used to them good luck :D

Super report!

Very pleased for both of you! They look fab.

I'd definately be attempting the champs - it'll be an experience she'll never forget and set her up for the future!

Another lovely update of D&D. just love reading them . can i say what alovely sensible young lady your daughter is. how many kids wiuld have carried in but your daughter has a lovely maturity about it all BUT still has fun. go to the championships if only fir the fun day and experience anything else is a bonus. you can tell your a very very proud mum and rightly so :) x

Yay! Glad you put a report up.

The NW champs will have a few fillers and flowers, but other than that they're just another show (with extremely large classes!). No reason at all why you can't go, especially as you've all summer to be out and about getting more and more experience...

Hope you're going to do the novice working hunter qualifiers there too...

(ps, will message you re dates in half term)

What a cracking report and wonderful photos!!!

I love pretzels, nom, nom.

Thanks Amymay! I think we finished them off between the two of us ;)

Oh well done D & D!

Thanks! :D

Thanks Old Bat! :D

Lovely. Well done all! :)

Thanks!! :D

Well done! Love the look on Dolly's face in some of those photos!!

She's a cheeky monkey but REALLY loves her jumping. Think she knew where we were going and that's why she decided to leave before we did! lol! :D

hahahaha I know! Time has flown, seriously!!! It's actually about this time of year I was having my dilema, three years ago! Believe it or not! :D

I love your updates. And how mature and sensible is Daughter for recognising that finishing on a good note is really important. Well done D&D :D

I've really proud of daughter. She always puts Dolly first. She just wants to keep the "good habits" going and thinks the more times Dolly goes round clear, the more she might stop, the stopping! We live in hope! :)

Aw they look deadly and very happy! I love the bridle on Dolly, really suits her. Daughter so wise and such a lovely position. Well done. Love D+D updates!

Awww thank you. I love this bridle too. It wasn't expensive, and I suspect won't last forever, but it does really suit her. :)

What a great day out you had. Well done D&D! And very sensible to stop when she had done so well!

I agree. I'd not thought of them stopping at that point, but when daughter said it, it just made complete sense. I'm so proud of them both! :D

Lovely pics and daughter looks so happy when she is riding. Thats what its all about - the rosettes are just the icing on the cake. Super well done to both! xxxxx

Daughter would live in the saddle if she could. And you're right, it's not just about the rosettes - I just love it when they have a good day out together....and when Dolly is a good girl!!! :D

Woo well done!!

Thank you! We'll definately have to keep working on the fillers  but I think we'll give it a go! :)

Lovely report :-) They look really fantastic together.

Definitely go to the Championships, it will be gr8 fun & good experience.

Let us know how you get on. Good luck to D&D x

Thank you! It's not until August, so plenty of time to work on it. Gives them something nice to aim for too, which is what I wanted originally! :)

I did the north west champs but it was a looooong time ago(1997) so I'm sure they have changed. When I did them they were a south view. WOW that's some big class sizes!!! That will be an experience for us! I think 20 odd is the most we've experienced so far! Best take a picnic then hadn't I!!! There's 3 classes they could do starting at 1 foot 9, then 2 foot, then a one round 2 foot 3 speed class. They should be on height, but it will definately be the fillers that are a problem! :p Well done on winning, all those years ago! :D

You should be very proud (I know you are) to have such a considerate daughter, she obviously loves that pony and much as she enjoys competing is always thinking of Dolly and whats best for her. She loves her jumping our Dolly! It just means she's gets a little "enthusiastic" sometimes lol!!!! I'm really proud of you saying she's "unrecognisable" - I think that too, but sometimes think it's just me! She's a different pony now. And what's lovely is we have one of her early owners on FB who we keep in regular touch with and she's always wishing daughter congratulations. She loves how well Dolly looks now, as she seemed to lose all her condition after they sold her. I'm really proud of them both, but a lot of it is down to the good support we have at our yard. I'm always trying to learn but we couldn't have got where we are without them. xxx

Well done to all of you, the photos are fab.

I don't think your daughter looks as if she's getting too tall for Dolly just yet, I'm sure she will still be competing on her next summer, and don't forget all the winter stuff you can do and indoor arenas!

Thank you! I hope so!! We've kept going all through winter this year and it's been good, just the weather stopped me taking the van out a couple of times. I don't want her ever to grow out of Dolly. I never quite made it to 5 foot, so there's still hope.....;)

:D :D :D Go D&D!!

That's really encouraging Lolo, it's all about the day isn't it rather than the prizes! These little dirty stoppers eh!!! I'm looking forward to it now, but we do really need to work on the fillers!!!:cool:;)

Wow that pony can jump sounds like a fab day.

Thanks! Yes, it is Bridgewater! I've heard it can be grim if you don't get the weather, but we'll give it a go I think! I'm liking the head sized rosettes! lol!!!

Always look forward to your reports. They're so great together. I'd say yes to the Championships, I remember going to mine very fondly indeed :)

Well, that's clinched it! We gotta do it! Sounds like it's a lovely experience, and just what I was looking for!!! :D

Looks like you all mastered the "having fun" bit! :)

Lovely happy pics.

YEY!! It was a really great day, and her winning was just a nice surprise at the end! :D

:D love reading your reports. what a lovely, sensible daughter you have, she obviously is thinking about her pony and wanting to give her a good experience. i wish more youngsters behaved like that... she is turning into a proper horseperson........yes go to the championships and have fun!!!!

by the way we havent forgotten about your lessons!!!! we need updates please and where are the piccies? :D:D

Wow! That last jumping pic :D niiice!!

Thank you! They're a bit good aren't they :o:D

Super report!

Very pleased for both of you! They look fab.

I'd definately be attempting the champs - it'll be an experience she'll never forget and set her up for the future!

Definately! I've made my mind up now and will take them! :D

Thank you, what a lovely post. I am really proud of them. Daughter has been taught well with ponies (not by me I hasten to add) she's very respectful and sensitive. She used to be an extremely quiet girl (to the point of her looking at me for me to answer questions that she'd been asked, it was quite bad - and this was only up to last year really). Horses have made her the girl she is, and given her confidence I never thought she'd have. I watch her when bigger girls ask her to help them tack ponies up and off she goes, chatting away about how to do things right. She's wise beyond her years, and I am really proud. Proud of Dolly too, the little ginger monster came good for us :) I'm a lucky girl :o

Yay! Glad you put a report up.

The NW champs will have a few fillers and flowers, but other than that they're just another show (with extremely large classes!). No reason at all why you can't go, especially as you've all summer to be out and about getting more and more experience...

(ps, will message you re dates in half term)

Hi Honey!!! It was great at weekend, and thank you for advising us to go!! I've always loved the grounds, but the organisers were really lovely and helped point us in the right direction. I'm ok once I've been somewhere once but get a bit daunted by it the first time! Such very nice people!

And of course the weather helped!!!

Will definately take them to the champs. But lots of work too do over Summer!!! Daughter is getting her over the dodgy jumps now, but Dolly is still protesting sometimes!!! More practice needed I think!

The showing and WH show is in our diary, but for some reason I feel we need to be somewhere else that day.....will try out best though. It's nice to have another place to go to now, I always thought it was more for seniors, and whilst daughter was one of the younger there, everyone was so nice to her.

ps looking forward to half term!!! I've been looking at your photos of "Big Rob" and he's......BIG!!!!!! :o;):p

Awesome report, fab photos! They look so happy in the last one!!

Thank you!!! Daughter was gushing all weekend about how proud she is of Dolly and how she has the best pony in the world. I agree with her!!! :D
