***Daughter and Dolly - an AWESOME day out with HONEY08!!!***

yet another lovely post redmone, daughter and dolly look great together, and its lovely to see you on a horse at last. you look absolutely fine, dont keep beating yourself up just enjoy!!!!!!!:D:D honey08 sounds like a gem, its lovely to hear of hho friendships..:D

I'm actually from Lees. Haven't ridden for a few years now but used to ride all over - had a share on a friend's horse. Delph Donkey, Pots 'n'Pans, etc. Great hacking round Saddleworth

Yes we're very lucky for hacking. Gosh there are a few of us from Saddleworth on here!

Shame we didn't do it today Redmone, its been beautiful sunshine!

That sounds like a fantastic day, what a lovely lady honey08 is. You look great and very happy on Rob. I know what you mean about being high up. I had a little ride on my friends 17hh horse and it was a loooong way down to get off. Dolly and daughter look fantastic as ever. Definitely give pc a go. You can choose what you want to do and you get some great lessons etc. My girls favourite thing is the xc rallies. Dolly looks like she loves xc. We are having a go at a hunter trial on Sunday so hopefully that will go well for us. Look forward to hearing about your next adventure.

Haha! I've been trying to persuade Redmone to sign them up for PC for two years now, and now I've got others on the job too!:D I know they'd love it, and make loads more horsey people like they did my friends...

Yes Dolly loved XC. In fact we spent most of the lesson trying to slow the ponies down, it was getting a bit Grand National at times!

Lovely thread. Dolly is awesome, she and daughter have come such a long way together.

And Rob? Lush is the only word I can think of for him, seriously nice horse.

Good to see you in the saddle too, what a great day you all had.

Ahhhhhh just realised you'd put a link in!!! What a lovely chap!!! You're ok too ;)

Daughter says he's gorgeous! :D

Thank you- he's sadly fully retired now, spends his days chilling in a field acting like the world's biggest lawnmower and best buddy to Al's new horse :) Loved riding him, even if he was so fat he almost wobbled me off when we trotted :D (he's not the biggest on the yard either, that honour goes to the very ginger giant, who is too close to 19hh for comfort!)

Thank you to miniRM too :D

If you have any queries re. PC stuff, specially about fitting in, feel free to message for more viewpoints, especially as we were considerably more clueless and had considerably naughtier ponies than Dolly when we joined!

Lovely report, well done D&D and also you for going for a hack!

Seriously I would look in to PC, it won't be long before you'll be looking for that next pony and it's hard to beat a support network like that when it comes to the next purchase :)

I hope I have as much fun with my girls and their ponies when they grow up!! Do you ever get over the OMG feeling when you see your baby flying round a xc course?!!!

Glad you had a good day, you all look like you had an amazing time! Rob and Dolly both look extremely well and beautiful.
btw, i only live about 10 mins from where you were, in fact, you can see my house from there (not on photo). Just out of interest, where did your hack take you roughly?

Awww, lovely report Redmone. We had a fun day didn't we! I got plied with wine and chocs, taken out for lunch, and flowers from my other friend, so I got spoiled too!

Redmone was very brave, Rob is big, he was bought for my 6'4" hubby.. I also didn't help her nerves by posting a photo of him gooning about being naughty in the field on Facebook the night before!! Doh! Sorry!

You did really well Redmone, Rob was quite happy with you. He loves pootling along, if you'd asked him to work he would have been more upset! As for the trotting - we should have added another hole for you on the stirrup leathers, he has a huge stride and a bounce to his trot, so don't knock yourself. You made me giggle when we were nearly home, you'd been beaming all the way, then your face dropped and you said, "how am I going to get down??" Daughter did really well on him, it suprised me how she didn't look that small too. He is a useful horse, my stepson came off a 13.2 and went onto him, I can ride him (he would event if I got my backside into gear) and hubby does too - perfect family horse! It was tempting to try him in your box, but he would have probably broken your suspension!!

Daughter and Dolly did really well on the mini-xc, as did the other little girl on her pony - another little chestnut mare, it really was national ginga day. Neither had a stop or fall all afternoon, and there were lots more smiles. Definately do not swop her onto a bigger pony, she is fine and they are at that stage where they will have loads of fun - make it last as long as possible..

Glad you got on well with my friend and her daughter, they were a good match for a lesson weren't they. I think she is glad to have met you as she wants someone to go out to shows with, and you guys are out there all the time!

We must do it again..

Ooh Katherinef, wonder if I know you!!

Thanks Honey! You are very kind, you really are!!!!

I was shocked at how powerful Rob felt, and how responsive (although I think he sussed out who was boss pretty early on - ie not me but him! lol!!!) but I loved him to bits. I'm wishing now that I'd asked if I could have a little pootle on my own on the way home (jealous of daughter much!!!) but the thought didn't enter my head at the time!!! I suppose it doesn't help that 99% of my riding has been in an arena, so to be in the great scary outdoors, on a big boy like him was quite different!!! I loved every minute, but yes, it didn't dawn on me until we were passing your house that I had to get off!!! Daughter (tiny as she is) made it look like nothing - just popped off. Me - I needed some scaffolding erecting!!! :o

It did make me laugh when I saw the "hooning about in the field photos"!!! I thought "uh-oh he looks like fun!!!" but as much as I worry about stuff, I am of a "you only live once mentality" and am up to give anything a shot!

Wasn't the girls (all 4 of them - children and equine!) brilliant! Great little riders and great little ponies. Naw - I'm not swopping Dolly for the world. She's turned into a cracking pony and I agree, daughter has got ages in her yet.

There are those who say the next pony is about due, but they do so without generally having seen Dolly and Daughter in the flesh. I think they're a perfect match right now, and most likely will be for at least the next 12 months. Anyway, no way I can face starting again any time soon!!!!

Honey - thanks again for a lovely day, and I'd love to do it again!!! So would daughter - she's fallen in love with Rob I think!

:D:D:D

I hope I have as much fun with my girls and their ponies when they grow up!! Do you ever get over the OMG feeling when you see your baby flying round a xc course?!!!

Short answer - no! :D

Long answer - yes. I was a chronic worrier but over time I've grown more trust in Daughter's ability both to ride well and to handle dodgy situations! I've also grown a microbe (and I mean a microbe!) more trust in Dolly. She's got her out of the brown stuff a couple of times and can be fantastic! She can also be a nightmare!!!

I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with your girls, but beware.....it goes faaaaaaaar too quickly!!! :(

:D

Thank you!! I will, I promise! I agree, there's nothing like the pony club network - it's just been the timing of things that's not worked for us in the past. :)

Glad you had a good day, you all look like you had an amazing time! Rob and Dolly both look extremely well and beautiful.

Rob was stunning! I still can't believe I rode him, he's so huge and impressive looking!! :D I'm really chuffed with Dolly at the moment - her coat is coming through nice (still needs a bath ) and she's lost yet more weight and is quite fit at the moment. Not bad for a chubby little chestnut!!

We rode past Castleshaw - but I don't know anymore than that!! Perhaps Honey will be along to fill in the gaps! x x

Brilliant - and lovely to see you both riding together as well. :D

Thank you - it was lovely and meant the world to me. Honey is very kind :D

Haha like a scarf!! Yep my boy is exactly the same! He is 14hh nf but takes a 6ft-6ft3 rug and 171/2" saddle - good job im not a kiddy and have a big butt :D

Hahahaha PMSL!!! Bet mine is bigger....ask Rob :D

Wow 6ft 3 on 14hh sounds huuuuuuge!!! :)

Dolly's rugs make me laugh - if they fit in the length, they tend to be long on the sides - she looks likes she's hiding in a duvet!!! Although I've found Masta rugs fit her nicely :)

Honey is a gem, and was lovely to us. It was nice to see her again, and to meet her stepson, the ponies, the dogs and the cats too!!!!! :)

Shame we didn't do it today Redmone, its been beautiful sunshine!

How nice has the weather been since! I bet it's been beautiful up near you yesterday and today!!! We had a pony free day today and went to Blackpool! Which was lovely but a bit.......weird.....!!! Couldn't shake the feeling all day that we should be somewhere else! Dolly had a day off and a bounce in the field, so all is good! :)

What a lovely thread:)

Thank you! x

I PROMISE I will look into PC!! Promise!!!!! I need to find somewhere for daughter to do XC comps now (thanks Honey!) so it's most likely better than anywhere else! Dolly seemed to really like it, she was a happy pony that day :D

Good luck for Sunday!!!

It was a bit quick at times wasn't it! lol!! I think both ponies were egging each other on!!! Quote from Honey "if you don't walk this bit, you're not jumping the next....ok.....trotting it will be ok....."!!! I think Fudge pony has some serious ability! Bet it's got a cracking jump in it height wise! :)

Lovely thread. Dolly is awesome, she and daughter have come such a long way together.

Lush is the word for Rob, definately. He's just got MASSIVE presence. I've never ridden a horse like him before! Seriously seriously nice horse!!! :D

And yeah, I think Dolly is awesome too....when she's a good girl ;)

Thank you! x x x

Gosh you really are a neighbour then! I live down in the valley, and we just rode up to Stanedge (where the Horse and Jockey was) and back, we were a bit against the clock to get back and have lunch before my other friend came with her daughter and pony..

Redmone, good first XC competitions for D and D around here would be Dean Valley XC (next competition is Aug I think), their smaller class would be perfect for them. Also keep an eye out for Turbury Equestrian Centre on the W Yorkshire side. They do Showcross, which is a round of show jumping and a round of XC, again they have a lovely inviting novice course which would be a good start for them. God knows where your sat nav would send you on the way there though, its on the top of the moor! Their website is www.turburyequisport.co.uk

I meant to ask you yesterday, how are your legs doing?!! Hope you could walk. Yes the weather is lovely now, typical!

Next time you come we will let you go solo at the end if you like. Funnily enough he is a totally different horse in an arena, really forward and bouncy. We have a fairly novice sharer, and while we were away we booked her a lesson on him with our mutual friend instructor on the hill, and she had to stop the lesson as he was getting far too bouncy and kept cantering off with her! Yet on a hack with other horses (especially my mare) he just goes into "I'll let her go first and I'll just have a nap behind" mode. This is the trot you are trying to sit to.... It was the reason I bought him, he'd looked quite ordinary until he moved (he was four and didn't "bloom" until six or seven really). That seems to be his tactics, either be lazy, or if you nag him he turns all bouncy and forward and tries to get you to give up that way!

Hi Honey!!!

The less said about the legs the better!!!! I struggle with dodgy knees (injury from a fall off my own feet a couple of years ago!) And a dodgy ankle (no idea why, only hurts when I ride!) And neither if them have caused me too much trouble. My inner thighs (ahem) are another matter!!! Today I'm walking like a cross between John Wayne and a gorilla!!!! Jeeeeeez!!! A day out in Blackpool today hasn't helped either! OH took pity on me and paid for a carriage ride from one end to the other though - every cloud and all that!!

Dean valley is already on the list, but never heard of turbury before. Just been on website and it looks awesome!!! Daughter loves the idea is show cross (eventing with the boring dressage bit-my words not hers lol!) So definitely gonna be in touch with them! They do xc lessons too which would be brill... :-)

What have you started here honey! I was just getting used to the doing sj!!!!! Xc seems much scarier!!

I'm chuffed you've said "next time" will really look forward to it! I much prefer the sound of ploddy Rob and not flashy cantering off Rob! I've never ridden a horse that had such a bouncy trot (for the few steps I did I just couldn't get into the swing of him!) Wish I was braver to try a bit harder!

Such a gorgeous horsey! X

Hahahaha point taken! But a private lesson would be when I could make it! However have been looking PC website tonight! X

I know what you're saying, about private lessons being when you want them, but she did so well with O on her pony, got on so well with her, did so well in a lesson with a similar pony - there are loads more Olivias at PC, mostly D's age too rather than O's, so that experience and friend making would multiply at pc. I just know she would love the whole thing and get so much from it.

Perhaps start with doing the next pc show if you can, as a non-member, you'd know one pc face already from last week. See how she enjoys the show and the variety of classes etc.

Just caught up with this thread.....I'm so glad you all had a great time, the pictures look fantastic. Wish I lived a bit closer! (PC can be fun....!) Daughter and you looked as though you had an awesome time!

Wow, I love reading your updates and Daughter/Dolly antics, keep sharing your wonderful stories,
you looked fabulous on Rob, well done xx

I hope I have as much fun with my girls and their ponies when they grow up!! Do you ever get over the OMG feeling when you see your baby flying round a xc course?!!!

My 'baby' is now over 21 and I still get the OMG feeling for both XC and showjumping. She is shocked that I'm like that as I was known as 'a bit of a nutter with no fear' back in the day :) :)
