I'm so sorry.

It seems so cruel to lose them when you've fought so hard for them. Letting them go before they suffer is such a brave and selfless act even though tears you apart.

Sending you and your daughter lots of love. Sleep well Dolly. Xx

So very sorry to read this but what an amazing level of love and care you showed her over the years. Such a brave thing to be able to let her go before she lost her spark.
I remember reading your D&D stories when I was brand new on the forum and enjoyed them so much, it was fantastic to see you all learning together.

Gosh, is it really ten years ago!
I remember following the lovely story of the partnership between daughter and Dolly being forged.
They leave a big hole, don't they.
I wish you well in your search.

Gosh has it really been 10 years!? I remember reading your early posts about your learning curve with Dolly and Daughter. I am so sorry to hear about Dolly, but what a lucky pony she was to have such a caring home for 10 years.

I followed you quietly from the beginning. Thank you for sharing the end. And she has taught you how to go on without her, you just can't see it yet. You've done the hardest bit, the rest will come with time. Every single horse-lover is with you in spirit and that's quite a support network, even if you never see them. X

I too remember the trials and tribulations of the early posts! It makes me feel very old ... but you gave her the best of lives and took the hardest decision and for that I salute you. Gallop free young lady xx

Dolly was a true and well-deserved forum favourite. I have loved reading about her over the years, she will be sorely missed by us on HHO, but obviously that doesn't touch how you will miss her. A great pony and friend, RIP.

Thank you so much, lovely words xxx

I'm so sorry for your, and your family's, loss. I had a look at a few of your old Dolly threads here on HHO, and have to say that it is striking how often your daughter was smiling while riding Dolly.

Not sure, but haven't your daughter had Dolly about half her life? I'm so impressed by how she thought of what was best for Dolly. Even though that is what all animal owners should do, it is still such a difficult decision to have to make.
Hope all the joy she gave you, helps you cope with the loss.
Lots of {{{{{{Hugs}}}}}} to all of you.

Ah this is just amazing. Thank you for the photos, I couldn't face working it out!

It's been an amazing journey. I even mastered poulticing... And I mean mine were better than the vets eventually... I'm not even ashamed to gloat on that!!

She just was everything to us and I think nursing her every day for 3 years made us even closer.

I can't think of much they didn't do together..... Dolly literally was one in a million to us. And we'll never find another. She was SO NAUGHTY!! But made daughter the rider she is because of it.

Took her to try a full TB ex racer today, off the track in August. Didn't even consider it being a challenge.... After all, we owned Dolly.... A naughty 12.2 rocket chestnut mare pony.... ? ? ?

For what it's worth the TB was an utter gent!!

As above we know it was the right time. We have no regrets. We just miss her so damn much xxx

I want to thank everyone, I mean it, from the bottom of my heart. It's so lovely you remember us and our story. I feel like dolly will always be here because of you guys. I didn't know whether to post, but I felt I owed everyone a final post about her. And a huge thank you for being with us.

Yes, 10 years. It went too fast and it never would have been long enough. Never.

One thing I'm proud of, she looked better the day she left us than the day we got her. That pony never wanted for anything. And I know we did right by her.

For those with good memories we were liveried on a good riding school for many years. Well we left there about 4 years ago and took dolly with us. So the last at least 4 years she has lived the life of riley on a lovely yard, with a HUGE stable, eva mats for comfort and everything she could wish for. She was spoilt rotten!

In August it was our 10th anniversary and we knew we were not putting her through another winter.

Ill try to attach our pony party photos. She had a walk out with her pals and everyone had sashes and birthday cake! Best day!!

She left this world a happy girl with a mouthful of carrots. And a job done well.

I miss her so much xxxx

so sorry you have lost her. i really cant believe it was 10 years ago when you started posting and asking lots of questions, you have both come a long way and dolly was very lucky to have such a good little rider and a mum who worked hard to absorb all the horse knowledge she could. you have done her proud and took the decision to end before she deteriorated ....good luck with your search for your new horse and hugs for both of you xx
