Hi all **waves**

Hope everyone is wrapped up this morning - a lot chillier than it has been isn't it, just when we were starting to enjoy Spring!

We've not been out loads, but thought I'd give a quick "two Ds" update!

I think my last update was about outlines and haynets! Well we got bored with that, and went out jumping instead! :D

Long story short (that doesn't sound like me does it :o!) D & D have not had much success jumping! At home, they can do it fine, but mainly because Daughter keeps herself within her comfort zone. As I've probably said before, height is not an issue for Dolly - it's fillers and the dirty stops they produce!

So whenever we arrive at a jumping competition, Daughter gets herself all wound up waiting to see what the course is going to throw at her. Which in turn does Dolly no favours. They have never been placing in a jumping competition (well until now!)!! They have won quite a bit with showing and dressage, but narda for jumping!!! :( They've come close a few times and each time something has happened - if it's not Dolly spooking at a filler and bombing for the door, it's daughter turning a circle by accident and getting herself out of the placing! They've really had no luck at all with the jumping!!!

We set off for Bold Heath (late - bloody van had a flat battery!!!) and had a real mad panic getting there. Not like us - we're normally organised! I rang ahead to say we were running late and asked if she could tag onto the end of the clear round.

We arrived and unloaded really quickly. Daughter was getting ready and I was getting Dolly ready. Quite funny actually as I heard Daughter shout......"muuuuuuum - I can't get my jacket on!!!!" I look round to see Daughters arms stuck up in the air, and he flailing about! Well nothing I could do with one arm full of ginger neck and another trying to chuck a saddle on Dolly!! Jacket finally on (with an inch of skin between cuff and gloves - what the hell happened over winter, I thought weeds stopped growing!!!!) and I flung daughter onto Dolly and pointed in the direction of the warm up.

Clear round had ended. :( HOWEVER nice man organising said "oh you rang ahead - off you go then"!!! :D Awesome people there. Really lovely.

So daughter went straight into clear round with no warm up. She trotted most of it, with the usual "oh sxxt what's coming next" look on her face. There were a couple of dodgy jumps (for Dolly!) but she jumped them all. I think it was better that daughter had less time to think about it to be honest.

Next they went into beginners jumping. Same course, just up a bit. It's a strange competition - three rounds, no jump off. Brilliant idea - a really good confidence giver, especially to Dirty Stops Dolly!!!!

So they cleared the first round, and up the poles went. Cleared second round - and again up the poles went (it started at about 55cm - ended on about 70cm) - each time people were eliminated, or had a pole down - only clear rounds went through to the next round. So finally they went into the last round, and went clear, and won (joint 1st with someone, but we don't care)!!!!

I was honestly stood there with tears in my eyes. First ever jumping frilly and it was a first!!!!! Daughter did her lap of honour and Dolly looked rather chuffed with herself!

There was then another clear round and onto the 65cm trailblazers qualifier. Daughter said "mum, she's done enough, lets end on a good note and go home" - again, very proud mum I was! What a good decision.

So we went home, with a clear round rosette and that precious red rosette which is still up on the wall in the living room about 3 weeks later!!!

Don't get me wrong from the above - Dolly is great at jumping at home. And Daughter loves it. It's just at comps they both seem to fall apart. I'm hoping Bold Heath has really helped them, and I'm taking them again next week - they're planning on doing exactly the same classes again (I think daughter wants to make sure it's not a fluke!!!).

Here's a proud photo (wish it was better quality, and I got none of them jumping :()

I'm taking them both to Aintree for a funday on Friday which includes showing, dressage, jumping, games etc... hopefully I'll have some better photos from there as OH is coming along!!!

Anyway, thanks for reading!! Lucozade and bacon butties for all!!!

Awww how lovely they look very goof together on the pics and congrats on the 1st place frilly!!!:) not suprised your very proud 3 rounds is tough. Have fun at Aintree

Yay go D&D!!! :D

Mini RM is so grown up and sensible you must be so proud of her.

Tell her the previous lack of rosettes from sj is an eventer thing ;)

Love the last photo especially, they both look so happy and they look cracking in the video! All I can suggest about the filler thing is lots more practice jumping as scarey things as you can at home.

Love D&D!!!

As i started reading and you said you were late- I was hoping less time would help as I'm similar (although never PLAN to be late :o) so thrilled when it came good!

Have you thought about restructuring D&D posts into a children's story book? I know its something my daughter would enjoy reading!

Well done all! :D

Well done and very well deserved...its a nightmare if you are a mum with a strong minded pony, I've spent a few years wondering when my mini is going to get decked next, if they can ride through it as yours has done she'll be flying soon!

These are my favourite threads to read :) love a DD post!

Well done to the pair of them. Such a beautiful pair, the photos always make me smile, wish I had these opportunities when I was your daighter's age!

Keep at it, more updates soon please!

Excellent jumping, well done D and D :D. They're looking sooooo good together.

I know you've got very good fillers to practise with at home, but they'll both be comfortable over them by now... so make them scary.
You can drape rugs over poles, under poles, hang coats over the jumps, use bedding bags underneath in a kind of cheap water tray/ditch-type thing (use two poles to hold it down). Basically, anything you can find around the yard or house that is vaguely jumpable, stick a pole over it and make it into a jump :)

And yes yes yes to an update on your riding please!

Lovely update and well done to d & d on coming first. They look so good together. Both my daughters ponies seem to jump well at home and then not so good out. I think it's a lot to do with rider nerves and confidence. Hopefully we will get there one day if my nerves can take it!! Older daughter has just started riding again after breaking her arm just before Christmas falling off while jumping!! I haven't let her jump yet though. Definitely want an update on your riding. I love reading your posts and always look out for them. Well done :D

:D Your reports always make me smile and as always I think back to when you started out. What a fabby pony Dolly has become! They've come so far. Won't be long before she's outgrown her though:(

Update on your own riding needed! Then we can all give you advise about buying your own horse ;)

Yes, you must :D

I've been quietly following your progress from the very first "help:eek:" posts. You never fail to make me smile with how far you've all come. I have endless admiration for everything you've done.

As a fellow first time owner I know how steep the learning curve can be and how rewarding it is to keep trying when it all seems to be going wrong. We've yet to manage a jumping frilly but you've motivated me to keep trying:)

Aww thanks DH!! Daughter will love the eventer comment - that's her dream! We've been putting just fillers out sometimes (without jumps) and making Dolly jump them on their own! That's got to help!!

The first of many I'm sure!! Well done to the D's :D

She looks to have grown sooooo much!!

shhhhhhhh don't say the grown thingy!!! She's so paranoid about outgrowing Dolly! I don't think it'll ever happen - Dolly can still deck her regularly!

Wonderful pony! and well done mini redmone.

Thank you :D

Lovely photos! Tell her well done from us! She must be over the moon :)

Awww thank you! She is, she was almost in tears too!!! Bless em, it's long overdue, and we could never of dreamt of a first! She was happy with the clear round! :)
Lovely update and lovely to read about such a sensible thoughtful young lady. X

Thanks jhoward. I love the pair of them, and I'm so proud xxx

Very well done to your daughter (and Dolly).
Hopefully the first of many red frillies :D

Definately! :D

Love D&D!!!

Thanks! I'd love too - just never sure my "quirky" writing style would work! I babble a bit too much I think! :o

Well it was your lovely daughter that encouraged me to do another update! After seeing your fab photos yesterday, I thought - I've got some of them!!! :D Yes, I watch through squinted eyes sometimes - makes me laugh when they go into a corner of the arena and out of sight and I'm waiting to see them coming out, thinking - I KNOW SHES DUMPED HER!!!

Awww thank you! You are all too kind to us!!! :D

Thank you xxx

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! I love reading about the adventures all of you get up to. Well done Dolly and D!

Aintree this Friday! Definately another update soon! Thank you! x x x

Still not got them over "THE WALL OF EVIL" yet!!! They're working up to it!!! I'm thinking of buying those hay bale covers and a wall pole cover!!! At least they're not solid. This'll mean nothing to anyone else Fairhill, but the number of times daughter has landed on those sodding pigs!!! hehehe :D

Hope your daughter's arm is better - suppose it's a bit of an occupational hazard isn't it :( still poo though. I worry about daughter so much. Some ponies just look easier to "drive"!! Lots of people comment on how lucky we are with Dolly now, and how easy daughter makes it look. I've learnt to be able to tell when daughter is gritting her teeth and holding on for dear life! she hides it well now, and I bet yours are the same

Noooooooooo don't say the outgrown word!!!! We're never getting rid of her anyway. I'm 5 foot nothing, so daughter is likely to be able to ride her forever. I think she'll just need something bigger to compete eventually. I want to be able to let her have two, at least for a while. Don't know how we'll manage that though....on lots of levels!

I'm not getting a horse for me (despite OH suggesting it over and over again - how lucky am I!!!) - next horse is going to be a competition type pony for Daughter. Probably 14 hh (you know me, i like to overhorse her ) that she could have a go at eventing on. It's got to have balls of steel though, as the main thing on our "want" list is one that doesn't do dirty stops!!!

Yes, you must :D

Awww thank you!!! The "EEK" threads seem a long time ago!!!

Good luck with your frillies (how bad does that sound lol!!!!)

Will update on me soon! xxx

Fabulous! :)

Thank you! :D

well done :D

didnt realise you are local to us :) thats our show ground :D

We're in Oldham - so about 35 miles from Bold Heath. What absolutely lovely people there, couldn't help us enough. The man even offered to jump start my van if battery went flat - first time I'd ever laid eyes on him. Top place, top people. I was very impressed!! :D

Thanks x

Very, very well done :D :D :D

Thanks Mrs M. x x x

Well done!
Love the photos, both your daughter and pony look really proud :}

We were all in bits, we were that chuffed!!! I definately think Dolly was happy with herself!! She does love her laps of honour

I love seeing your updates! Dolly is a smaller version of my Orla (facially, they look so similar, what is she, a nf/welsh?!!) Unfortunately, my 12yo daughter keeps going through confidence dips, so progress has been very up & down! However, we did hack out together on Sunday & had a really lovely gallop, so maybe her mojo is coming back...! ;) Hope D&D enjoy Friday! :)

I love the D&D updates, every time they have improved and had so much fun in the process- what having a pony is all about!

Tell miniRM not to stress over size. Al has just started schooling a family's ponies a day a week and the largest is a mini-TB type 14.2hh, and the smallest a little 13hh. She's 5'6 and looks right on a 16.3hh... Yet still looks fine on the midget ponies :D
