***Daughter and Dolly update....and a little about me!!!***

I love Dolly!

How on earth anyone can say your daughter is too big for Dolly is beyond me! Your daughter is a little stick and Dolly a tank. Some people have no idea!

Agreed! And do you know what. In "real life" she is more "stick-like" and Dolly more "tank-like"!!! I honestly couldn't believe it when I read it in her "comments". I just didn't know what to do. My first thought was "I can't show daughter this" but then I thought, well how can I not? She was waiting to hear how she'd done!!! I honestly think it's a fashion thing now - but I just don't think it's something a judge should pass comment on, not to the child.

ps thanks! I love Dolly too!!! :D

Well done to D and D :)
Now then Mrs. will be seeing the horse searching posts in the spring? When you look for the right animal for you to hack out with the two D's? :) :) :)

Sadly, No.

I'm painfully aware, that despite my above ravings, Daughter WILL grow out of Dolly. Probably in the next 12 to 24 months. If not in size, probably in ability. And I mean that in the humblest possible way.

Our "next" horse (good god, I can't be saying that in a post on here after my "OMG what have I done" Dolly posting history :p) will have to be for Daughter. I imagine she'll want/need a 14hh eventing pony of some description. (I plan on skipping the 13hh stage as otherwise, I may end up with more ponies than a small riding school!) Preferably something that's show name starts "Saint.........." so I don't have to lose sleep and hair again!!!

Now don't think I haven't given this some thought! Daughter is 4 foot 10 inches, just under 5 stone. I am 5 foot (:o) and 12 stone. There is NO way we can share a horse.

Perhaps I will be able to perch a cheek on her potential 2nd pony one day, but seriously, I will be shopping with just her in mind. She'll need something (in my opinion) not as heavy built as Dolly in the future.

I hope that if I get my act together with the riding, our wonderful riding school might allow me to hack their horses out with Daughter, if I ask really really nicely!!! They honestly are so good to us it's untrue.

But if we win the lottery, I'm buying something with heavy feet and LOADS of feathers!!! :D

I'm probably twice her age and dolly could walk under my horse but you'd never catch us jumping that...

She wanted to go higher!!

And I don't say that out of gloating, or even mummsy pride! She does really like jumping high.

But equally, she'll lose hours practising a dressage test, every little bit separately and then running it on foot round the house.

She's a strange child!!!

she's horsey we're all weird

You can see from your Daughters face how much herself & the Pony are enjoying everything... and THAT is all its about @ that age! But seriously I haven't jumped that big on my 16hh yet, jeepers put to shame:rolleyes:

Haha there's no shame!!! If you want to talk about shame it's my lack of ability to do anything in the saddle without a giggling fit!!!

But seriously, they are so happy together. They're perfect for each other! How lucky was I!?? You just have to look at their face to see it! Don't ever want these days to end!!! Xxx

I didnt want to mention that in the message I sent you as I copied miniRM in as well but yes I think they are going to out grow each others abilities before, if ever, size wize.

Did she see the message? is she now happier that shes not to big on dolly? I hope she is as she really has nothing to worry about.

Some thing like YP would suit you both, he can jump what miniRM is likley to want to jump and would hack out with you and look after you. So I wouldnt dismiss some thing to share even if its not got the hairy feet you want.

Btw, I am awaiting your daughter's massive growth spurt :D My sister was teeny tiny small, until she was 12. And then she was suddenly about 7' tall. Well, 5'6 with legs that come to my rib cage. My mum is utterly tiny too, and I'm also a short arse...

No one is entirely sure when that happened!

Hi DH!!!

I saw your message but don't think daughter logged on last night! Was riding and then homeworking! She'll be on for HOURS tonight though, so I bet she replies then!

I think she knows she's ok on Dolly now. I didn't want to sound full of it about her abilities, but I do that'll be the bigger issue before size is. There's so much she's got to do with Dolly yet though. They've not actually WON a rosette for jumping yet (other than in an online competition!) - they're jinxed - everytime they're in line for one, something happens!!! So we've got to crack that, they've not done much working hunter or XC, and daughter wants to go to pony racing school with her, and my plan was to let her, but next year when she's REALLY on top of her. So plenty still to do! :D

I'd love something like YP but I'm sure I'd squash him. I'm 12 stone at the moment (my heaviest ) and I just can't seen something coping with me, but still respecting daughter at 5 stone! I know respect doesn't come with size, but it can't be an accident that the bigger daughter got, the more Dolly behaved! Perhaps I'll be proved wrong!

Daughter is feeling better about everything now though! She knows she's got forever to bomb about on Dolly now, or Orange Pony as perhaps we should call her :D

Oh Christ Almighty!!!!! Not sure what I'm more shocked at??? The change in your sister over such a small time, or the size of those bloody jumps!!!!!!!

Now, you know, I really didn't need to hear about another short arse family growing a 5 foot 6 child!!!!! I honestly think daughter would lose the plot if she grows much beyond 5 foot! She's determined to be small (to the point where I'm watching her VERY carefully in the eating department, if you get my drift!! ) partly because she wants to be a jockey and partly because she wants to ride little ponies forever!! I do wonder if she'll ever move onto horses (not that I want her to) I think she wants to be a pony girl forever! And why not!!!

Will post some photos in a mo....showing Daughter's growth spurt!!! :D

OK.....here's a few D & D photos showing Daughter's growth spurt!

:D

oh look at those first pics  she was tiny lol!! how long have you had Dolly? and how old is daughter now?
this my daughter on her 14hh connie, daughter is 11 but tiny and only weighs about 4 stone!
miffy033.jpg

her legs just come past the saddle flaps lol!!:o she's no where near as brave as your D though, likes to keep ponies feet on the ground;)

Can't quote as I'm on my phone but the girl on the grey in the photo I sent you has ridden YP and she's only 8. She popped him over a small course of jumps in the middle of a big field as well. She would possibly need to take a step back if she moved on to something like him in terms of what she's currently jumping. I'd let you on YP, you would be fine to hack him out especially once you are back riding fit.

Awww what a gorgeous photo!! Sorry for slow reply, only just got back on here after O2 phone problems at weekend!

We've had Dolly just over 2 years now, and yes, Daughter was a pea on a drum when we first bought her! My daughter is also 11 and just over 4 stone! I think our girls would probably get along well!!! And they could swop ponies and be little and large on them!!! :D

Don't know where daughter gets her bravery from, I can barely watch anymore!!! What jumping a metre again at weekend, and then a long triple (spread?) type jump where there was three wings with space between them! I was like  It wasn't a high jump but Dolly seemed in the air for aaaaages!!!!:D

There's no way I could ride YP. I think Daughter would stampede me out of the way first to get her bum in his saddle!!!;):D

If it's any comfort to miniRM, at 5'6 and a healthy weight Al is only just too big for flat racing, and is easily small enough for over jumps... She rides a 16.3hh TB (he's an actual ex-racer too!) and looks small :D

Baha, I'm permanently terrified of what she jumps! We were chatting about hunt rides and how her perfect 21st pressie would be a day hunting in big Leicestershire country (she's just 18, got ages to dissuade her...) and I showed her this video as a joke:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0t37we057k&feature=relmfu

And she is desperate to do it! Not my intention. O.o

Sounds like miniRM is hot on Al's tail though :O Those are enormous jumps! And you could easily ride a 14.2hh native type... Al had a flying coblet who'd have carried you all day, but still pinged 1.10m courses! He was a bit of a freak though!!

Ahhh RM, I weigh more than you and Kelly carries me quite happily still! (Although I don't feel as comfortable as I used to!)

miniRM is looking fantastic - she has a few more years left in Dolly yet! And trust me, even if she outgrows her in ability she'll still have loooaddss of fun on her!!

rebel1.jpg

This is me on Rebel - a 13.2hh something X something (lol) in 2004 - I was aged 15 here. Rebel grew in ability as I got more confident - he started getting naughtier, he jumped like a stag, bucked whenever he cantered on a field, would randomly start rodeoing at times (showground, roads you name it, he rodeoed on it!) but would happily plod round safely with a child or a novice. Dolly may well get cheekier as miniRM gets more and more confidence :)

Looking amazing though!! No way too big!!

K x

I hate to worry you but I agree with Lolo, there's a definite growth spurt due ;)
I love reading the Dolly updates, they really remind me of when I got my first pony and I can imagine, had my Mum had access to HHO all those years ago her posts would have echoed yours completely.
Our first pony was a 13.3 of a similar build and personality to Dolly. I got her for my 10th birthday and was tiny on her. It took 3.5yrs for me to outgrow her (both height and ability). I did my final Shetland Grand National race when I was 12yrs old, and the following year my parents bought me a 16hh TB to event  (they didn't want to have to sell an outgrown pony/horse so bought something that I couldn't outgrow)! Young girls have a tendency to shoot up in height very quickly when you least expect it :p
PS Your Daughter and Dolly make a lovely partnership, you must be very proud :)
