Great update. Glad daughter is ok after her fall and it has helped her improve her riding not dented her confidance.
There is a huge diffrence in daughter and dolly from when we first met them on here. They have grown into an amazing team. I think (if summer ever comes ;) )they are going to have so much fun and sucsess together. Theres no stopping them now. :D

I absolutely LOVE Daughter and Dolly updates.
They are such a lovely partnership. Dolly's expression in the pic when you first go her is hilarious!
Daughter is getting so tall! The old Irish remedy (well my Dad threatened me with it a lot when I got to 5'10" at 12-little did he know that was me finshed!) is to hit them over the head with a 'boulthery schtick' which is supposed to stop you growing (!). I may have to send you one to prolong D + D's fun!

What a fabulous thread Redmone - you must be so proud of your daughter, I just can't believe how well they have done from looking at the before picture (and I can't believe its 2 years!!)

When my daughter was a similar age we had a fantastic little pony like Dolly and I remember a friend (mother of superstar young event rider) saying to me "hang on to that pony until her feet are dragging on the ground" ;)

Good luck for the future D & D :D

Enjoyed reading your post, what a pretty head Dolly has, lovely that you have now reached the stage where you can put her on full livery and let her job just be a competition pony and for your daughter.

Hope you have an enjoyable and successful summer together

Thanks Laura! You're another who's been there from day 1, and talked me through our more "interesting" moments!

We seriously do need a boulthery schtick!!!!!! I'm a hair under 5 foot, and OH is about 5 foot 6, so you never know where she'll end up!!!!

Smashing :D

They'd make a nice working hunter combination :)

That's been said a few times - they're entering their first WH comp next Saturday! NO idea what it will entail......again google is my friend.....so fingers crossed for them! :D

I really am proud of them. Daughter is so accomplished with Dolly now. I love the fact that there's no limits to what they can do now. No more me saying "ooooo that's too high, fast, scary etc...." I really want them to do everything together. And then I'll try to find Dolly a quiet life. We will however be keeping hold of her forever, so it may be in hand showing with me

Well today marks the first official day of full livery for Dolly. I think she quite likes it!!!

Fab report!

I think that anyone else would have, with total justification, sold this pony when you first bought her, but none of us realised just how determined your daughter is!! I so admire her ability to dust herself off and get back on, legs kicking, and get on with it.

Don't worry about her growing out of Dolly - she is a lightweight (daughter) and doesn't look at all big on Dolly. Let her enjoy the good times that come when kids finally grow into their ponies and get to fight back a bit!

Looking forward to seeing you out and about this year. (ps, when the ground is a tad better here, you can come down and do our diddy XC fences one day if you like - especially designed for when stepson was at that stage...) I might even put you on the leadrein on hubby's gentle giant hunter while I do ride and lead, and you can come for a hack with us (daughter and Dolly etc) in this lovely hacking area..

Such a kind offer Honey, thank you. And I'd love to take you up on it. Please just message me when the time is good for you. I'm a bit daunted by the "gentle GIANT" hunter but you know me, game for a laugh! I'm just humbled that you'd let my ample ass on board him!!!

You're quite right about Dolly, and you have the bonus of having seen her in the (ginger) flesh!!! I knew daughter was a good rider by how quick she bounced back from her busted arm (in many pieces and had surgery, but riding less than 6 weeks later) - at her age, many kids would have given up. she has a true love for the sport. But even I am shocked by her determination.

Sure, in some people's eyes, she may have missed out on a the lovely small pony stage with a forgiving schoolmaster that would just keep on giving, but I think Dolly has made her the rider she is. And I think she's reaping the benefits now for her perseverance. She's made Dolly into a good pony. It was lovely seeing the look on the faces of the people who used to know her, they were truly shocked. Dolly's a different pony now, and I can't wait for you to meet her again!

And for what it's worth, I think the current trend of kids moving onto bigger ponies quicker and quicker is rubbish! Almost as soon as they get a handle on the pony, they want a bigger model. They really "do" themselves out of a lot of fun (and prizes!) in my opinion. Yes, daughter will be dragging her feet on the floor I think! :D

Will do, thank you! She most certainly does have a home for life. OH wouldn't let us ever part with her, even if daughter and I wanted to! It makes me laugh at shows when he's with us. We park up, and I run off to the office to sign them in whilst daughter gets changed. I get back to the van, to find it empty of pony. And OH. He has this routine where he unloads her and off they toddle for a look around. She has to see where she's going and stretch her legs. It's lovely, she follows him around like a puppy with big gooey "I love you and your apples" eyes!!!! I'm sure it helps her settle. I took her jumping on my own this weekend, and found myself having to "take her for a walk" whilst daughter got ready, for fear of breaking the routine and causing havoc!!!!! Ahhh she's a lovely pony. Just took a while for her to realise it I think! :p

Well done Dolly and Daughter, they look fantastic together. She is definitely a very determined rider. My older daughters pony doesn't like fillers which resulted in a broken arm!!! Am going to do the same as you and get loads of scary things for him to jump so hopefully it will cure the problem. It's horrible when they fall off isn't it. I've lost cont the number of times my younger daughter has fallen off, bless her. Anyway, keep the reports coming. I'm always looking out for them. Fab report as always.

Thank you!!

Scary fillers are evil!!! We're hoping that Dolly will forget she doesn't like them at some point! She can still catch daughter out (she likes to now put the occasional stop in at a "normal" jump now!) but I do get the impression she is trust daughter more now and taking some confidence from her.

Hope your daughter's arm is ok. Sometimes they bounce, and well sometimes, they don't :( I suppose it's all part of the sport, but I do wish mine would stay on board more!!!
