Oooh yay Dolly update :D

She looks a lot better, and she and your daughter both just look so happy with each other :D

Bet getting Dolly is one of the best things you ever did now eh? :)

They're doing great!

As I've said, I occasionally have my moments of doubt (but it's all me, not daughter or anyone else!) but yes, she is the best thing we ever did.

She's brought daughter on so much and given her so much confidence, in all aspects of her life, not just riding. I'm so proud of them both.

Love them both to bits.

Miss having cash and time though

This is a still taken from the video! Video is quite funny!! Dolly just stopped and looked at daughter on the floor and daughter jumped up, shouted "I'm ok everyone and started laughing!"

Leg position comments, anyone!! :D

Probably what this looked like from the front! :D

JT yes that was me doing a fabulous job of showing how NOT to jump a drop! Ollycob is a fairy at the best of times so probably was a little worried - not too worried that he couldn't bog off and be chased by the master though!

My daughter once won 'most stylish rider' prize in a sj competition for under 10s. She did a lovely and very correctly ridden round (v good leg position!), other than one jump in the jump off pony stopped suddenly, and she tipped over pony's head, put a hand on the jump and somersaulted to land on her feet the other side of the fence. We were never sure if she won it for the round or for her dismount!

So lovely to see these! YOU seem so much more confident, too - you would never have believed it a year ago :D They are doing sooo well, and anyway, who needs a convertible? ;)

Thank you!

Thankyou. Thats my wonderful old mare Lucy :) She was the best pony EVER :D I miss her so much :(

Love the description after that photo of daughter falling off. Sounds like me when I fall off. I often do alittle dance to :o . I'm glad she was ok and it didn't knock her confidance :)

I am so pleased to see that your daughter is getting on so well :)

Tell your daughter that Dolly reminds me of my neices first pony - Candy:rolleyes::D taught them more than any other pony/horse and now means they can ride anything:D Candy at various times would take chunks out of you, in show clasess(boring:rolleyes:) would turn round in the line up, munch grass etc but put her in a working hunter etc she would win every time!:D would take them round over all the fences and get them out of trouble - once she decided that the smallest fences were not to her liking so took my neice over the next classes fences:eek: - neice was in tears but they gave her a rosette for going clear on the bigger course!:D Candy even though only 12h jumped 4ft in chase me charlies and loved hunting - was asked to leave the field on more than one occaision as she liked being up front following the 'big' horses over hedges etc - more than once took off past the master - and that was with a teenager on her back!:D She dumped my neice head first, bum first, feet first into jumps/fences, galloped across fields without stopping etc etc BUT when they finally grew out of her they went on to a whizzy speed jumping pony and my eldest neice now events on a 16h TB which she has ridden since she was 14 - none of that would have been possible without Candy:D

Candy has gone back to her original owners and is terrorising and teaching more kids the fun of riding - be it hunting, hacking, jumping etc - as long as its not that boring showing stuff!!:rolleyes:D:D:D

My neices would tell your daughter that all the bruises and tears will be worth it in the end..........:):D:D:D

Very true!! Lets hope lots of people need a convertible so I get a good price for it!! It's only to go to a five star home, not a beginners car, quite moody when garaged for long periods of time and a real money pit! :) Ooops wrong advert!

Yes, I do feel a lot more confident. I can have a go at doing most things myself now, with a lot less worries. I seriously don't like being reliant on other people - no reflection on others, just my own little character flaw of being a control freak!

However, I've learnt that the horsey world is full of control freaks just like me, so I'm in good company! I think that's why horsey folk fall out occasionally - we're strong willed and convinced we're always right!! And I proudly include myself in that generalisation - I'm a horsey folk now :D

Thanks.

She's quite good at staying on normally, and had had quite a traumatic jumping course (Dolly being VERY excited and daughter holding on for dear life - couldn't believe she pulled up at that little pole!!!) so it was a shame she came off. She was fine, not injured at all (and has done it again since!) - confidence slightly knocked at the time, but recovered well since. She's less fussed about falling off now, as she's achieved her 7 falls and is a good rider! She's had 8 actually!

RIP Lucy. She looks like one of the good uns. x

WOW! What a lovely post!!! Thank you!

They do sound rather similar don't they!!! Dolly is a strange one. Sometimes, it's like she feels insulted by a little crosspole, and trotting up to it. Zooming up to it in canter and a bit higher and she's much better. BUT we are having trouble with fillers, pony eating walls, water jumps (well a little tray with ducks sent straight from the gates of HELL!!!!) etc....but I think a lot of it is Dolly trying it on and Daughter not getting her leg on. Because of a couple of dirty stops, Daughter is holding back in case she does it again. We're going to work on this soon!

Candy sounds like she rocks!! Bet she was a horrorbag in the stable too!! Dolly's lovely to anyone who she knows won't take it, just me and daughter she tries it on with!

:D

Candy had here moments!:D she sneaked into my cobs stable one day whilst she was being untacked and started eating my cobs dinner! My cob just stood at the back of the stable looking at her as if to say 'HELP my dinner!!':D:D

She had been used for lessons in a previous home and we think she just got fed up with hauled about by kids:rolleyes: she would put up with it for so long and then she would have had enough!:o One minute she would be happy having a cuddle the next minute a she woud try and take a chunk out of you!

My neice took her to the school SJing competition one year - there was one fence that was causing problems for everyone - lots of Pony Club there having the same issue:rolleyes: - Candy stopped at the fence with the filler that was apparently a horse eater:rolleyes: and neice came over her head:eek: neice got up gave her a smack and called here something along the lines of 'you bitch' hopped back on and had another go and Candy went over:rolleyes: she deffo knew when to try it on and when the jockey meant it:D I don't think my neice has ever quite forgiven her for dumping her in a pile of fresh sheep poo while cross countrying - she had a green stripe of poo all down her back starting at her shoulder and finishing by her knees......:eek:D:D:D

Still we forgave Candy everything as she really is a star of a pony - as we used to tell my neices 'you will never ride anything as naughty as Candy ever again - she will make sure you can ride' :D:D:D

Sorry but :D:D:D at the sheep poo!!!

I love Candy! Such an innocent name too, just like Dolly!!

I do think ponies like these are good teachers, providing the riders aren't beginners to start with! Someone said to me today that Dolly was a perfect "first pony"! I smiled politely but silently disagreed! I'm by no means "bigging" up daughter's skills, but when daughter was a true beginner Dolly would have ran rings around her. It's only really since daughter's last growth spurt that Dolly seems to respect her a little more. Before it was like  "I don't think so"!

An instructor said that if Dolly was 16hh she'd be lethal! Made me chuckle! Dolly already "thinks" she's 16hh :D

My new scheme of throwing my arms up in the air if she goes for me seems to be working. It really worries her, which is the first thing I've done in response to her naughtiness which hasn't resulting in worse naughtiness, so it's a good start! Will keep on with that!

PS Love Candy nicking poor laid back Cob's grub :D

O no! Naughty boy! I'm taking BH hunting next month and my mother has already told me that if I disgrace her by falling off or letting my horse tank me she'll disown me :o

I love your mother. Everytime you mention her, it's something hilarious she's said :D

Will have to see if I can find a photo of the toad!:D

Honestly Candy was the same - when they were total 'novices' she was in charge when they started to grow it became a partnership - as long as they were doing what Candy wanted!:rolleyes:D:D:D

As for my coblet beign laod back - she is far from it as hse is very much the alpha mare - I was trying to get Candy out before she started double barrelling her:eek: but I think she was so affronted at the little squirt getting in she didn't have time to react!!:D:D:D

That's quite a spectacular dismount from "Daughter", btw :D Full marks for athleticism. I normally just sort of roll off and splat :p

My mother is a dinosaur!! She is totally liberal but she speaks like someone from the 1930's and is blunt to the point of rudeness where I am concerned. God forbid that I should do something she considers 'improper'! Are you really laughing because she calls me 'sturdy'?!

I even have the text message she sent me from Athens to prove she really said I had better be able to hold my horse!

ETS: Apparently she is Croatia rather than Greece now  Even from abroad I get nagged to behave!

She's a well travelled dinosaur  It makes me feel better - my mother calls me sturdy too  She's right, but still

Your mother is right too - if I hear you allowed BH to overtake the master, I will have to start divorce proceedings
