I just wanted to say how pleased I am with how my daughter is being with our new little pony. She spends the whole day with her in the field, just brushing her or leading her around or just being in there with her. Honestly she only comes in to eat her lunch and then goes straight back out!! One of the bonuses of having the horses at home.

Its funny though as I have two daughters, 7 and 8 years old. The older one is more confident at riding and has lessons every week, but is less interested in her pony at home. But the younger one stopped lessons as she was getting quite worried by having to jump (the instructor kept making her even though I asked her not to, so we stopped the lessons). For the moment the younger one is spending time on the lead rein with our little pony going out on hacks and just enjoying it again before we restart lessons, I am looking at other riding schools. Anyway, it is the younger one who just loves being with the pony, I am so pleased with how she is being. She is always involved in poo picking and feeding. So just a pleased post!!:D

I think you either love em or dont! Glad she is having some fun and that sounds like one lucky pony, they love kids. As to the instructor I would change, we had a fab instructor who NEVER pushed them and always always said we must end the lesson on a high. She was right. But good luck and nice weather to enjoy.

Enjoy watching those days, they're so cute. I remember my stepson at a similar age with his first pony, I have a wonderful photo of him crouching down next to his pony wafting away flies that landed on her legs, he loved her so much!

Ah that's lovely.

My daughters were a bit like that. The elder one loves all aspects of her horse, riding, care, tack cleaning etc (she's now 18)

The younger one (now 16) only liked to ride, but not do any of the chores. Eventually she, very sensibly, asked me to return her loan pony to his owner.

So now we have one horse and my younger daughter will maybe ride twice a year, she will really enjoy it and come back from a hack beaming, but then is quite happy to hang up her hat for six months or so before she goes again.

It wouldn't be right for us all to be the same!

How lovely, owning a pony is not just about riding, it has to be about the pleasure of just being with them, well done to your daughter.

I would second the approach, let her relax and enjoy her hacking, being made to do something you do not want to is a horrible thing to do, and will put her off jumping not encourage her! There is a lot more to owing ponies than jumping, my children used to enjoy doing handy pony things, and thinking up new courses and obstacles to practice over.

That's lovely :) my daughter is the same, she loves riding but she enjoys the poo picking, grooming, lunging and just being with him even more I think, she's happy to muck out and its just lovely to see their relationship grow :)
