combination of the awful winter and ponies that needed to be turned away we hadnt been out to a show for over 3 months. went out last week, quite a early start and long journey so daughter got changed in the lorry and none of her clothes fitted! she'd grown about 3 inches! luckily there was a tack shop at the event and we got some super strength jodhpur clips and pulled them down but she just had to jump in the old jacket with sleeves to the elbow and bursting at the seams! i want to buy her something really nice - shes a good kid, works hard at school and does all her ponies properly - theres a second hand animo on ebay but its red?

If she's very very good then okay, but if not then definitely no! I desperately wanted a burgundy Pikeur for SJ but wouldn't want to stand out from the crowd to that extent.

I love them,Charlotte has one and it looks really smart and fits so nicely. I'd love one too,but would clash too much with my face in the summer :-O

A friend of mine was unaffiliated show-jumping last week and her cousin nicked her blue jacket, so she had to put on her red animo one, announced that she hadn;t worn in since Kentucky, and it wouldn;t be doing to have fences down in a 110 wearing it... She promptly did have fences down :D. On the plus side for a growing kid animo's are stretchy aren't they? I really like a milky coffee coloured Pikeur one too Tabledancer. Like Louise, I just don't think red would be my thing....

I think red is a bit chavy, unless on professional riders to be honest.. I much prefer to see riders in Navy or Black (you can jazz the jackets up a bit!). Mind you, I am from Australia where you can only jump in red jackets if you have represented Australia on the International Circuit, so each to their own :)

Inclined to agree that I'd avoid a red jacket unless said rider really is very good and doesn't mind drawing attention to herself..the only riders I ever see here wearing them (though I'm from overseas) are our top pro's and even then only at big big events like national champs and our version of hickstead :p

Would personally stick to navy or black, but it's up to you (and her!) obviously :)

Same.

Ummm personally I wouldn't, but simply because I think red jackets belong on huntsmasters and professionals. But if it makes her happy and you think she deserves it, go for it!

I think the Animo jackets are REALLY nice, and saw someone today at unaff. SJ wearing a red jacket. I think, if you haven't got the best upper body they draw a lot of attention to it and with that criticism. I think the animo jackets look better in black :) The red is a bit too 'red' if you get me!

i know. if it was blue or black i would have bought it by now! she is actually pretty good and could probs get away with it. but at the moment its quite funny because the 2 ponies are funny blocky little cobby things that look like we've just dragged them out of a bog and when we turn up at a show everyones like eww! but if she keeps the poles up she wins. and comes second! so i quite like her being in disguise haha xx

daughter looked over my shoulder last night and said "oh no im not good enough for red" i love her so much! went out today and got 1st and 2nd in both her classes!

Judging by the number of posts on here complaining about that "someone said something nasty about me" - an awful lot of people give a stuff!

True!! Maybe they need to find better things to worry about though :p

I can honestly say that I would not look at someone and think they were not good enough to wear a red jacket. I would notice really bad (or really good for that matter!) riding no matter what the colour of the jacket

I would buy it if she likes it why not, who cares about drawing attention if people want to criticise they will anyway. Better to be noticed than not at all. It is all supposed to be fun.

Well from the sounds of it, you want to treat her and if that's the colour she likes then why the hell not, like someone else said, there only young once and if it makes her feel special (I mean that in a loving way...as in makes her feel really happy) perhaps check with her first if she'd want a red one, just incase she's feel uncomfortable wearing it.

i think there is such a wide variety of colours now (bright blue, light grey, green, red, burgundy, pinstripes) that she wont stand out for any reason other than being a good rider by the sound of it.

i can hardly cajole my dressage horse round 2ft but when we go out unaff sj im determinded to have the josh jones electric blue jacket! life is about having fun and enjoying stuff so if she likes it i say go for it :)
