My daughter who is 11, has had no choice but to ride a 15.2 coloured cob for the last 2 years, he is an absolute honeypie, but she was extremely over horsed and if he wanted to eat from the hedge or plough whichever way he wanted she had a complete battle, but because he was such a darling she always won, but wasn't really ideal for learning to ride on......... she eventually mastered cantering him through the woods, whilst we rode the naughty baby, and he always looked after her, but she yearned to ride a pony so i thought blow it!!... and at 12pm on Saturday spur of the moment I phoned the local riding school and asked if she could come along, they said we could come along at 2pm and my daughter was bursting with excitement!!!!!!

When we got there the instructor said what are you used to riding and she said 15,2,, they said OK we will pop you on something bigger as you are used to that, and her little face dropped, but when she got to her mount it was the most adorable dun about 13.2!

She mounted and had the biggest grin you have ever seen!!!! She rode this pony for 30 mins, walk, trot, canter, he's a strong boy in a kimblewick and flash, but she clicked with him as he was so much more handleable for her!! She grinned and grinned, we are now up to Thursday with 2 days to go until her next lesson, she talks about her lesson every day, why did I wait so long to get her on a pony??

This is how I was when I was her age, isn't childhood and ponies just GREAT?????

Aww lovely post :)

I am always jealous when I see young kids having fun on ponies - I didn't start riding until I was 16 (completely unhorsey family) so have had a lot of 'catching up' to do.
 
I was sooooooooooo tight!!!! Didn't want to pay £10 for half an hour lesson when she can ride the cob whenever she likes, BUT OMG the excitement I have had from her since Saturday would bring tears to your eyes, shes on cloud 9! I feel a bit guilty lol.. will find a photo, pony is called Maverick! I suspect hes a little **** xx
 
You mean I'm not a child on a pony...? Ooops few years since that, I forgot ;)

I think all horse lovers are little children on little ponies at heart!

Bless, she looks so happy! I remember when I started having lessons how excited I was to go, I'm bug my mum so much. And to be extra prepared when I arrived at the yard I would put my hat on in the car! I got some very funny looks when we had to stop at the petrol station before my lesson! I used to still have the same excitement but since it's become more everyday for me it's not been as exciting but if I'm having a good ride I'll go round with a grin on my face.

hehe I used to feel so "important" walking around town in my jodhpurs and jodhpur boots" remember that excitment so much hehe

Your daughter looks so happy on the pony - you have to get her one of her own! Tell OH to take the cob hunting!!

BTW he looks just like my cheeky cob - no branch is too high or too far away when he fancies a nibble! He even had a go at a hanging basket in the village once, before I saw what he was up to and put a quick stop to it!!

HEHE can imagine it!!!!! Noooooooo he would only take a cob hunting if it was at least 16hh... built like a brick, hogged and dehaired on its legs!!! lol... He likes his horses to be like ferraris! and preferably 17.2 ish!

been offered a stable and paddock for £50 mth, would love to get her a pony to be honest, something hardy and hairy.... I am only 5 foot 3, so would like a pony to share with her, but will need to be strong to carry me, so thinking something about 14.2 and HW...............
 
Oooh nice little cob or cob x then.. perfect for you both. If you decide to sell your lovely 15.2 cob let me know. My OH is always "borrowing" mine (he is 15hh) and I have told him to go find one of his own. We could have a matching pair!!

He's not ours, hes a friends and much loved, he will never be going anywhere!! haha.... Yeah I could get a little dales or something... i just can't be bothered to look tbh at the moment, whenever you go to see a horse its 2 hands bigger or smaller than advertised, sellers always seem to lie, makes me very depressed!!!!
