Had a dressage lesson with him today.. What a lovely man ... I was very apprehensive when I had a lesson with him as he teaches top riders but I though hey... he is at our yard teaching go for it but I was quite apprehensive.... am I good enough... is he going to tear me apart but you know what I thoroughly enjoyed it... he was very patient and taught me a great deal in just 30 mins.. had a sense of humour and taught me not to be tooooooooo technical. I have been taught previously "mary wanless" techniques which I still think are great but I was getting tooo bogged down with the technicality of it all rather than just "getting on and riding".

. I use to think "is my powerhose in the right place, am I bearing down at the right time, is left shoulder higher than the right... blah blah..."!!

Oh, would be interested to hear what your thought are... obviously I know we have to be careful what we say but PM if you like.. I am always interested in other peoples thoughts as I am quite open minded about training methods.

I've seen him at a demo day (it was a BD pyramid trainers, training day). I thought he was wonderful to watch, and very matter of fact. He forced the riders to go back to basics when clearly they had been under the illusion they were ready for greater things! His way of explaining things, made perfect sense to me too

He is my instructor's mentor (although she does have the odd disagreement with him!

I'd love to one day have a lesson with him.

Keep us posted!

I have always liked him as well. I used to be regulary taught by Douglas Hibbert when on ponies and occasionally would get a lesson from David as well. I liked David as just like you although I was nothing to the standard he was used to that didn't matter. He concentrated on the basics and it helped no end. In one session I ran through an elementary test which was scored he then taught me for 20-30mins then I ran through the test again. I think I went up from 55 to 65% which is no mean feat with David's judging.

I have also written for him on several occasions and think he is an excellent judge, very fair and knows what he is lokoing for (but again he should!) was a bit worried one time though when horse came down the centre line and he started asking what I would award the hrose and why!!!

luckily I was by then on his same wavelength and plucked out of the sky the correct score hee hee hee
