Rebel had the dreaded surgery yesterday to remove both testicle's one of which was retained , vets had to make 4 incisions to find the missing one , i knew he would be sore but this has really knocked him for 6 , He is in his cage to stop the other's bothering him and has had some breakfast and has managed a wee , hate seeing him like this , anyone else had a dog had this op and how long was it before they felt better ?

Mine has literally just had both his testicles off. Both retained. luckily only 2 incisions, one rather large one though (bit like a bitches spayed cut) and a tiny one. He came home and the first night he whinged and howled for hours!! Next day he was slightly quieter but then was back to normal. Being a nutty springer though he doesnt notice much

Aw poor doggy.

Our little Lakeland terrier is always a chirpy little chap, so when he went for the Big Chop a few years ago we thought he'd immediately bounce back to his normal self.

Not so unfortunately. When we brought him back from the vets he was shaking, miserable and cowed down. Didn't want to do anything which isn't like him at all. So I think it affects different dogs in different ways.

Will yours eat? The vet suggested ours had some plain cooked chicken or scrambled egg (ours loves a raw egg, a real treat).

Hope yours is feeling better soon. Often with dogs, one minute they're down, the next minute they're up and jumping around.

PS like your non-biting collar; the padding will make it so much more comfy than the bog-standard horrible plastic things you usually get. Whatta good idea. Where did you get it?

PPS sorry meant to say that I'd be inclined to ask the vet for some painkillers for yours if you haven't already got any. I can't remember the name of what we had but it was something that went in the food and it made a huge difference, made him so much more chilled. You could also try one of the DAP (Dog Appeasing Pheromone) plug-in air diffusers - they are absolutely fantastic and really do work at calming the dog. Your vet should have them or most big pet shops like Pets at Home. Not cheap but well worth the money IMO.

Thanks, yes he has eaten he was given 3 tins of prescription diet food from the vet and is on painkillers, The collar is great i got it from Buster dog collar 's website , the normal plastic collars are a nightmare as he normally does everything at warp speed and i end up with bruised legs and the shelties tend to get scopped up in it , this collar seems to act as a nice pillow aswell and he can eat and drink with it on, the only downside is if they have a paw injury they can still reach to lick !

it can take a good few days for them to be back to normal after having a retained testicle removed, its so variable as it depends how much searching about has been done to find/reach it. as long as he is eating, drinking, peeing and pooing he should be fine, if you are worried though just call the vets and they should say they will check him over for nothing to put your mind at rest. retained testicles can mean major surgery.

bless poor boy
