Got up at 5am to travel 3hrs to Warwick for my Search For A Star training day, in prep for hoys. Arrived with plenty of time, so not rush to get me and him ready.
After being there half an hour my friend gets a call from the other liveries, to say my other horse Caspar has injured himself, but told not to worry/stress me out!- i grab phone off her at this point. To be told Cas has a ripped his hind leg open. I recieve a pic message, which looked horrific and phone vet.
Same vet that came out the previous afternoon to my mare whos legs ewas cut afew weeks ago, and is recieving ongoing treatment!
By this point im in tears, as could see him (just about) in the corner of the field this morning (it was dark) and had a bad feeling then. I stupidly didnt go up and check him.
So got on and went in for my training day. We were slip in half, with my half doing the ride section first. We all walked round, then trotted and get that awful feeling your horse is lame. Judge tells me he is. Got off and found a big chunk of rubber wedged between his shoe and frog. Get back on and his a little sore, but then wore off. Thank god!
So whilst being sat on the horses for 2hrs, im asking my friend in the gallery for updates on Caspar!
Caspar was looked at my the vet, she confirms its deep and could have gone in the joint. He needed to go to Leahurst. My very good friend agreed to take him in her trailer, and cancel her appointments she had booked. Bless him he went in trailer and travelled very well. (He'd never been in one before!) Once there they left him, and vets were going to Xray and scan him.
Me on the other hand finished the training, with only afew things to change, loaded up and travelled back. Awaiting the vets phone call.
Vet rings me at 4.20pm to say the good news was the main joint isnt infected, and there were no obvious fractures. Bad news being the bones were roughened (not sure what that means) and that they couldnt tell if the other joint was ok, as it was swelled so much. They were waiting for the orthapedic (sp?) surgeon to have a look at him, and scan it to look for tendon damage etc.
To top it all off a livery barged the stable door down to get to his new female friend, and my mare and foal managed to open the stable door and wander round the fields!
All in all i dont want another day like yesterday.
Waiting to hear from the vets. So vibes for Caspar please.
Sorry its sooo long.
