When we give our horses a day off after working them hard do you think our horses really appreciate the day off? Would they maybe prefer a hack or do they like their usual work? Just curious what does everyone else think?

Hmm I always give mine a day off after a show or lesson as she gets excited and works hard. I like to let her just mooch around the field and stretch out. She *would* work again if I asked her to, but I often think that if I feel stiff/tired after a hard day, then it's not unreasonable to think she would do as well.

My mare had a week off at the end of July as I was away, and she came back into work much fresher. Personally, and for my horse, I think having a day off here and there is a good thing.

ETA - my horse enjoys her work, but if I was actually to ask her whether she appreicates her days off I'm sure she would say yes, and prefer not to work at all!!

i usually hack mine out after a hard lesson or comp then he usually gets the day after that off.
i would say he does like his days off but is always much sharper after a day off,
