Do you give your horses days off?

I've been wondering what todo with blue. I have him 4 days a week so he used to get a day off on one of my days, However i've started to lunge him once a week, but this means i loose a day of riding. My sharer hacks him the other 3 days and it's not fair on her to give up one of her days.

So my choice is only ride twice (schooling), lunge once and day off or ride 3 times still (2 schooling, 1 hack) lunge once and maybe a day off every 2 weeks? but i'm not sure if thats fair on him.

He's only in 'light' work as he's been out of regular work for ages and i'm trying to build him back up. Basically he does 20 mins-ish in the school in mainly walk and trot, occasionally with poles if i remember to get them out, 20 mins when he's lunged (again walk and trot) and hacking in walk (1hr at most, but usually shorter). Does that sound ok with out a regular day off? (If i don't have time cus of working or the weather etc he gets them then...but thats more of a spur of the moment thing)

He's turned out during the day, in at night and not fed a large amount (few handfuls of hi-fi light, small scoop of lo-cal balencer and small scoop of pasture mix) as he seems to be a good-doer atm (obv if he starts dropping weight when it gets to winter we'll up his feed or start adding a bulking feed or something).

Does what i'm doing seem ok?

Cookies for people that actually got this far...twas more of a ramble that i thought it would be.

I don't think there would be any harm in not giving him a day off. He spends over 23 hours of each day doing nothing so it's not like he's overworked!
Enjoy your riding and don't feel guilty, he seems to have a good life.

My horse rarely gets a day off. If he does it will once every few weeks, or after we have been to a show.
He has 2/3 hacks, 1 jumping session, 1 lunging session, and then 2/3 schooling sessions
He is really happy doing that and is really fit.
He loves his work so much that if he does have a day he gets cranky! Lol

tbh i think i spoil my horse - if hes worked one day i let him recover the day after - i like to do one day on, one day off - by day i mean 45 mins at most - ok im ready to be shot down now x

Thanks. The rational part of my brain told me I was being stupid as he basically does no work compared to some of the others, But i've always been used to giving horses at least one day off a week and felt guilty about it :( lol
