I've just realised that poor Axey hasn't had a day off for ages now as I'm currently 'between jobs!' and making the most of being able to ride every day

Is it necessary for horses to have a day off every week, what do you guys do?

I used to give Cat a day off or an easy day after a show, dep on what we'd been doing.

Otherwise he used to get days off if the weather was really awful / loose shoe etc. I didn't like him having too many days off cos he used to get very full of himself.

Not set days off, but if its raining or I just can't face it then he gets a day off. He plays in the field for 23 hours a day so its not like he's being worked 12 hours a day therefore deserving a day off!

Mine always have days off, usually because I dont have a sand school or anything to ride in, I have a paddock so the weather very much dictates what I can do. If its pissing rain then obviously there's no point in getting on since there's not much work to be done in mud....! But otherwise mine always get the day BEFORE and AFTER a competition off. Unless its a small thing then I might ride the day before.

Bert gets days off. Always a Friday and sometimes a Monday or Tuesday. This coincides with Bin day in the village as it is just not worth the hassle.

Currently he is having a week off from ridden work as I am waiting for the saddler to come out.

I always like to give mine 1 day off a week to allow her muscles to recover. Athletes etc always give themselves a day off, otherwise your muscles can never truly recover.

yes I give mine a day off a week. the day is not set in stone just as and when each week.
after a show ect I like to take her for a plod to stretch herself out then give her the day off after that normally.

Mine gets days off now that she is out. When they were all in 24/7 I tried to at least get her on the walker every day even if I couldn't ride because I thought standing in a stable all day was probalby more stressful than being worked for an hour or so.

Actually mine is being ridden about twice a week at the moment - having a post-winter, can't be bothered with horses, holiday at the moment !!!!!
