Ok, my horse is sound & un-injured (keeping everything crossed it remains that way), i have 4x4 with trailer and good friend with trusty cob so i am planning on making the most of things and having lots of days out.

I live in the Lancs area and have on my list:

Craven Country Park
Sommerford Park
Crow Wood
Ainsdale Beach

Can anyone in the North West recommend anywhere else, my friend and I are happy hackers and just want some nice safe off-road riding.

Pilling Sands is a nice quiet beach, just check tide times

Rivington - cannot recommend enough - I miss it so much!! Basically a large hacking area, you can go on the roads, tracks, fields or ride up to the top of the hills. Can also stop off at the barn for a cup of tea and cake!

have a Google for photos (amazing views) and if you have any questions PM me :-)

Rivington! Im so lucky that I get to go up all the time with my friends horses as its only 15 minutes drive :D
Great hacking, and there is never that many horses! But on Sundays, all the motorbikes go up and it is alot busier-still great though because there is a bigger barn open :)

I used to stable my horses up there :( *weeps for lack of hacking*

i wouldn't personally bother with crow wood...its just got the gallops and then a rather crappy x country. but definitely recommend craven country ride and somerford farm ride- loads of fun. you can also do the mary twonley loop if you are game- it takes about 4 days and is part of the penine bridleway :D

I love Rivington, there's so much to explore! Not seen even half of it yet and have been quite a few times now. In fact i'm off there tomorrow :D Loads of nice canter fields there :D

I'm liking this thread. If can ever get the share beast loaded it would be nice to visit some of these places.

Went to Cheshire View Farm Ride a couple of weeks ago and it was fab. Lots of mini jumps for scaredy cats and hills and ditches etc. Not the same set up as Somerford and Kelsall, as it's just a caravan in the middle of the field but the people there were lovely.

GG Centre is a fab day out good prices too, I'm not too far from you it's not as far away as you'd think!

This is brilliant, thanks for all the suggestions/replies, they all look and sound like what my friend and I are after, just some some nice off-road riding as where we live there is no where safe to have a good canter/blast.

Thanks again, i can see we are going to have a good summer
