I'm having a slight dilemma over which of these is the least worse turnout option for my mare, so thought I'd throw it open to the HHO experts!

She has tears (confirmed by mri) in both front feet ddft. Shoes are off and we are taking our time with rehab, currently still in the toe first stage. Feet are strong though and she is coping really well without shoes.

I have to move fields on sat and the options are not great:

1) turnout with her group on a river bank. Field is long and narrow and the slope down the long side is near enough vertical, and my mare is not sensible enough to stay on the flat section at the bottom.

2) turnout in a small paddock on her own, size is about 20ft X 30 ft. Ground is flat and there is grass for her to pick at.

It will be for 3-4 weeks at which point she will move into a lovely large field and be out 24/7.

Thoughts?

If you went for the small paddock are there any other horses within sight? What's she like on her own?

Have to admit that the river bank would rather scare me - but that's because I know my horses and their ability to run up big vets bills!

Thanks, mare is sensible on her own and would be near the others.
Thankfully yard owner has come up trumps and sorted out option c, turnout with one other on a flat space, which is big enough for them to potter around in happily for the next few weeks. I am very relieved!
