How concerned should I be about the fact that I tipped the contents of my mares net that she hadn’t ate this afternoon onto the floor to find a dead mouse! Clearly I hadn’t noticed it this morning while filling the net and I presume it was baled in that haylage as it was rather squished….
I obviously googled and it mentions botulism… I am not quite sure what to do, she is fine within herself etc, I am not sure if I am just overthinking this!

Edit: while the mouse was flattened it was not decomposed etc if that makes a difference!

Be more worried if it was mummified dog poo! Keep an eye on temperature, pulse, respiration, behaviour etc, and definitely contact vet if any significant changes - think you’ll be fine, though.

We have mice and rats making little houses in my horses stable every night. The horse eats his bed - I shouldn’t worry too much they have been living with rodents for many years

I’ve seen all sorts of things in haylage over the years working on yards including a dead rabbit, bones and birds etc. Also never seen any ill effects caused by it so she should be fine.

Sorry for the sudden silence!! All is well and my panic was just a panic nothing else!
I did not realise quite how many ‘things’ you can find in haylage, a mouse doesn’t seem the worst of it 😂😂
