Dealer regulations

Hi, can anyone tell me are horse /pony dealers regulated??

A dealer not too far away is advertising ponies and horses as first ponies when I know or a fact they're not, ie a 16.2hh tb x that i used to know and rears etc...NOT for a beginner, being sold as a novice's hack "the sort hard to find'.

I have been to this yard once and know this woman, but she is using different names for dofferent adverts and is dodgy as hell.

any advice welcome, after the other week's disaster I'd hate anyone else to get hurt.

Trading Standards are your best bet. Dealers have to adhere to the same policies as other traders i.e. as item being sold 'being fit for purpose'.

Not sure whether Trading Standards have people who know about horses but they must be in contact with people that are because I remember reading somewhere about a dealer who was taken to court for the same dodgy dealings.

as far as i am aware when you advertise your horse eg as traffic proof etc it has to be as it reads, i know of someone who bought a pony for her daughter as traffic proof and as a novice. the 1st time it went out in traffic it freaked and threw the daughter off, she broke her wrist, to cut the story short several years later going through the courts she won her case as the dealer would not take the pony back, and won all costs of keeping the pony and was entitled to keep the pony, the dealer ceased dealing, good job
