I'm new to horse owning as I've had my mare just two months & the horsey world is unfolding before my eyes!

Just a query - I bought my girl from a dealer who a close friend bought a lovely horse from 2 years ago so a strong reccomendation and she's fantastic so fingers x'd it's a genuine deal as she passed a 5-stage vet but nothing's ever certain.

However, I'd heard some not-so-good stories too & yesterday someone expressed disbelief that we'd actually bought a horse from there!

Obviously, I'm very happy with my horse & wouldn't change her if i could BUT it has made me a little nervous!!!

Now, I don't want to mention any names but if there's someone I shouldn't have bought from, can you pm me the name?

Thanks so much!!!
Strawberries & cream for all who can offer any insight!

Unfortunately with dealers there are some who are great and some who are awful. But even sometimes the good ones end up with bad press - quite often people buy horses that arent right for them and the dealer tends to take the blame rightly or wrongly. Purchasers tend to overstate what they are capable of!

If you have had a 5 stage vet and the horse has been with you for 2 months and shows no problems then I would tend not to let it worry you - if you start lookng for problems they may come along!

I bought mine from a dealer 18 months ago and apart from probably paying a little too much for him so far he has been everything that was promised and more. The dealer wasnt recommended to me but I knew that he had owned and jumped my previous horse and judged him on the feeling I got in his yard - tidyness, condition of the horses etc.

I heard a really good expression recently - "judge with your eyes and not your ears". I think if you are happy with your horse and it passed a five stage vetting then don't let any niggling thoughts spoil your fun!

Good luck with your mare

Thanks for your sound advice!

She's had a few sharp moments & quite a few bucks but I think they were due to her being over-bitted with too much food & not enough turnout & we seem to have worked through that! (She's in a rubber snaffle now with ad lib haylage & a meagre ration of hard feed & good as gold)

I'm only worried because it all seems too good to be true as she's great looking & wasn't expensive...

You're right, though - I should stop waiting for disaster to strike!

Thanks!
