dealers should be regulated in some way - what do you all think

It seems like every time someone asks about a dealer on here there are several people who have had bad experiences with them or know of people who have. It doesn't seem like there are any that you can truly trust bar maybe one or two.

Who is for some sort of regulation of the trade in selling horses? Maybe there should be an organisation that reputable dealers could become members of. At least that way there could be some sort of standard maintained that they would have to adhere to to remain members. Having been ripped off by dealers before I know I would be all for it. What do you all think?

I would favour a sort of eBay system where those who buy horses have to provide feedback and this is published publicly and the dealer builds up a rating.

Not perfect but would be something. Its so hard when trading standards wont tell you about the complaints that are made about someone unless they actually prosecute them, I think they should release that info like they are starting to do about dirty restaurant inspections for food hygiene.

it would help the good dealers and also be balanced - horses can do unexpected things but feedback rating overall would still be positive if they addressed the problem and resolved it well.

This is a very good idea. Don't know how it could be made to work in practice though. We could do with somewhere on this site where we could all go to give feedback on horses bought through dealers. Difficulty is we are not supposed to say negative things about them apparently which is not very helpful.

Not sticking up for all dealers, but they must have a hell of a job with peoples riding abilities, so many people overrate their ability or when you sell a horse you get the endless, im very nervous... people should remember a horse is a follower it is looking for a strong leader how ever quiet it may be.
