Dealing with a bullie and bad facilities - help!

Hi

The woman who owns the yard where I am is bullying me and has been doing so for months. I used to live (up until recently) in two rooms in her house. I moved in so that I could be close to the ponies, as I've never had that luxury before. Then the bullying started. I've now moved out (thank God!) but the ponies are still at the yard and I have to go there twice a day to do the ponies. The shelter where the ponies are has been broken ever since I moved there. I have lost a ton of bedding due to the leaks in the shelter soaking the beds every time it rains. I have asked for a reduction in the livery cost per week until the shelter is fixed (which I am sure is her responsibility) but she has said no to my request. I just need some help on where I am legally. ie if I don't pay as much anyway, because of the loss of bedding, can she do anything awful?
I am doing all I can to get the ponies out of there fast! This is making me ill.

Poor you thats a horrible situation, id just leave and not pay any the last lot of rent and leave a letter explaining why, id also take pic of the broken shelter just incase she does get funny.

The problem is, I pay her in cash every week, and she knows I'm planning on leaving asap. If I don't pay her, she can't sell the ponies or anything can she?!!
 
Im not sure on that one, but I do know that my freind had her horse padlocked into a field as she worked for the lady and decided not to work her notice as she could'nt stand it there, id phone your local citizens advice, but I think personally id rather just get out and cut my losses with the money thats been lost on the bedding etc.
 
Just leave asap, even if you have to pay. If shes a bully and a bit odd she might do something to get you back if you dont pay. Dont risk it and just get out asap
 
You could speak to the BHS but stay professional and find a new yard asap. Make sure you've got transport organised and just go with minimum fuss. Where in the UK are you? I've got a vacancy if you get really stuck.
 
I wouldn't rattle her cage as the situation will become more unbearable, do the ponies live out & have acsess to the shelter, or are they shut in there at night?
If the former, I wouldn't worry to much about the leak, although its far from ideal.
I know of a livery yard that wouldn't let the owner remove her horses until she was up to date on her livery bills, thus incurring further costs. Don't know if this is legal or not though.
 
It would really depend on how much you are paying for what you get, I am gobsmacked sometimes that people think paying £10 a week entitles them to superior equestrian facilities, for that I would expect a bit of acreage and running water. Anything else is a bonus!

They live within a yard which is concreted with a shelter in it, so the beds are on concrete flooring and not grass like a usual field shelter, and I am not paying quite as much as the going rate in the area, but enough to be able to expect to have a shelter that doesn't leak.
 
agreed, i'd get up there with a sheet of plastic or some wood, and repair it as best i could.
and get out of there as soon as possible.... or, try to sit down with her and listen to what her grievances are and try to understand why she is "bullying" you. might be good to take a 3rd party to keep it calm and nice...

I'm going to look at a new yard this morning, sounds promising, so hopefully we'll be out of there soon!
