Hi have you had any success or can give any advice with treating horse fly bites. I have a welsh shire cross and there appear to be a lot of bites in the legs from the knee to the fetlock these itch and are lumpy and as a result the big feller rubs his legs, they often bleed which shows in the white feathers on the legs (He looks like a shire). The only insect I have seen here is horse flys. I would like to treat the bites but does anything work for you?
Thank you Ian

From experience, I would consider mites rather than horse fly bites. Speak to your vet as I understand they can be treated by injection rather than topical method.

Yes horses, esp heavier breeds with long feathers are prone to getting Chorioptic mange this is cause by a species of non-burrowing mite called chorioptes. They induce crusty lesions and thickened skin below the knee and hocks.

I would get your vets opinion.
