I've not really been having the best month here, and whilst some of it is "first world problems" and nobody's died (yet...), it could be starting to get my down by now... If you get bored of the pity party, skip to the end ;)

Thus far, my old lad, Jasper, played the lead in a major drama a few weeks ago, when he came back from a quiet-ish hack blowing heavily and subsequently started bringing up large volumes of fluid from his lungs, leading to a week's stay at the vets, a very large bill and a lot of late night diagnostics! He improved dramatically, came home and has been fine for 2 weeks, off his meds and everything...

Yesterday my land rover went in for some work and came out uncommonly quickly and cheaply. I picked it up and started to drive the 8 miles or so home. We made it about 5 miles and the clutch went, right on a roundabout on an NSL road - perfect! I was then stuck with it for 6 hours or so, waiting first for one recovery truck to trailer it to a local service station that was actually further away than my house, then waiting for the mechanic and come and "diagnose the problem" (i.e. say "clutch is screwed, send it to a garage" - because I clearly didn't already know this...), then finally for the same recovery truck to re-appear and take it back to the garage we started at. Oh joy! I finally got horses in at 1am and home by 2...

Today, aside from dealing with the fact the evil hound had chewed up my debit card, and I needed cash (took 3 ATMs to find a working one of the right type!), I got up the yard to find Jasper heaving and coughing again, now with added gunk... He's settled down a bit with a fairly stunning selection of medications, but it wasn't the least stressful morning in the world.

This month, more trivial matters include Fergs breaking his competition bridle, me smashing the screen on my ipad, and about a million other stupid things!

The real question is, do you let these things bother you? Last night, I felt it was a "laugh or cry" situation, and I chose the former. So while we were sitting in the HGV park waiting for recovery truck (2), this is what I was doing:

Sorry, can't embed from fb... But I hope it's amusing - cc welcome ;)

Yes sometimes I do let the little things get to me. A good friends sister passed away today after a short illness, it was a huge shock and just brings all the little things that bother us into perspective.

Haha! Loving the video :D I must say I get a bit silly when stuff gets too much...like singing "Cell Block Tango - Chicago" on the way back from Tesco in the dark, wind and rain, with about 6 heavy bags!

Sorry to hear about all the rubbish that's been going on and I hope J gets better soon!

And that, right there, is exactly what I'm talking about :D

Well they say things go in 3's so you should be clear for a while, but do hope your horse in on the mend. My gearbox went once many years ago and I had to reverse 1 1/2 miles home on a country road. :D

That video has made my day lol.

I've had a random dance to 'Dansa Kuduro' (that silly mexicany song off F&F?)...it came on radio and that was it. To releive the traffic situation at a stand still, had a boogie with my sis along to that at the top of our lungs! Got to laugh, burns more calories than crying!

I guess there's no right or wrong way to react to something - whatever makes you feel better afterwards, really. Some people cry to get the emotion out but the vid suggests you may have been waaay past that stage!

Reminds me of the bit in the French and Saunders video when they give up on any cooperation from the ponies and jump the jumps themselves. Best wishes for a better day tomorrow.

Your flying changes were sticky and you just 'died' each time you change a gait, quite frankly, the worst test I have ever seen!

Outrageous!

...on the plus point, good to see you riding sensibly in a hat! :D

Tee hee hee!

The men in white coats are on their way to you........

On a more serious note you move very close behind at some points. I think perhaps it would be worth going barefoot and eating a shed load of turmeric as that will solve all problems known to mankind.....or is it womankind, or even horsekind?

Ha!ha! brilliant, I have been known to do that in the living room, but can't say I have done it at a service station/side of the road!!! :-) I am rubbish when things go wrong as I normally get a terrible attack of the giggles which annoys the hell out of whoever I am with!

It was EXACTLY like that, except that I was on my own and had nobody to dressage with me :p

Right hock is screwed -mechanically unsound. Usually works in bandages etc to protect lower limbs, but obviously against the BD rules. What can you do, eh?!

Multiquote isn't working - grrrr.

That's soooo negative and NOT constructive :( I'm going to cry in a corner :'(

Well, that DOES it! I'm reporting you for bullying, harrasment, um..... and calling me AWFUL NAMES!

Brilliant replies all! Poor OP...I got the silly giggles in a Maths exam once because it was that or start howling in despair...not surprisingly I failed the paper :( Hope your horse soon improves with the meds and things all take a turn for the better.

Fab vid :D
I have to say, given your bad luck, you've chosen the better option. Crying and rocking silently in a corner is never a good move :D
I quite liked your extended trot too!!!

And your flying changes were a bit "Choppy."
Nah, if you didn't laugh, you'd cry!

Don't knock my changes :p It's a close call sometimes, but I'd rather cry with laughter than sadness. So I do :p

Hehe brilliant... I got the giggles in the middle of a German oral exam, telling my teacher that "I'd seen Nessie on holiday at Loch Ness. She was big and green and liked to play the bagpipes". Show off ;)

Thanks :)

Confused as to why the horse is wearing the helmet but I must say your extended trot was my favorite part! ;)

We're very safety conscious here at JFTD's Holistic Dressage Agency...

Thanks, I'm rather proud of my extended trot ;) Not bad for a carthorse!
