Dealing with new horse new place

Hiya!
In short new horse new place and my wonderful gelding is now acting strangley when ridden. He for some reason in canter turns 180 degrees and runs to other side. I am working with trainer and myself to deal with this but feel sad regards this. Is this really new place issue and we will get this resolved after some time or is this learned behavior that seller didn't inform me about?

additional info: saddle and health has been checked and he has no pain, and recently we changed his diet as we suspect that he has too much energy
 
Cut out all hard feed.
Get him in a really strict routine.
Pay someone in the short term to ride him reasonably hard.
Call the old owner and ask them for a bit of advice/help - if they are genuine they will want to try and make the new partnership work

Hi! Sounds like an idea thanks will talk with trainer and see what we can do :)
