I appear to be turning into a neurotic puppy mother before we have even got the poor thing!!! OH has already told me I'm overreacting but hey apparently I need to hear it from you guys too lol

So, the breeder has been posting regular videos of the pups on instagram which have been brilliant for both watching their development and stopping my son combusting with impatience waiting for 8 weeks! Anyhow the latest video clips show the pups playing in the breeders sitting room - in one clip our pup slips on the wooden floor and does the splits with her back legs and at the same time another pup comes along and squishes her - in the next clip she appears to be limping (I may be paranoid and imagining this as its just a couple of steps) and in another clip she looks cowering and somewhat fearful while other pups are cheerfully bobbling about carrying slippers etc. I don't know if the clips are posted in chronological order and I don't want to contact the breeder and appear to neurotic but I can't help worrying as I really don't want a fearful, lame puppy

(For context, every other dog I have had has been a rescue with multiple problems and I got my OH's puppy 12 years ago from an employee of my Mum's who turned out to be pretty awful as breeders go so I thought that by researching a good breeder and paying decent money for a pup it might be more problem free)

Please tell me that puppies are made of rubber at this age and a few seconds of video are just a moment in time etc etc. ..
 
I wouldn't worry too much about puppy play,but if you think you may be getting an omega pup and you really want a more assertive pup ,then definitely call the breeder and reaffirm your wish list.
when I had the choice of three remaining pups...one was called "the gangster "by the breeder,the second was "mr affable "and the third was a "bit shy"...we chose no 2 and have followed he first pups progress online in his new home. He went on to be a very alpha male in a multi dog household..( uk breeder)..he's as happy as a clam but would not have been the dog for us. my boy is a perfect fit...I think the breeder will work with you as surely she wants the best fit for her pups.
 
Thanks Bellasophia, I certainly don't want an alpha as we already have an alpha bitch and pup needs to stay lower in the social order to avoid management challenges! I just don't want a pup that will be a huge problem in any particular way i.e. freaking out at any new experience!

Haha even I think I am overreacting now!
 
I cannot imagine why any breeder would keep a litter on a slippery floor, I think you are right to be worriesd, not out of a fear context but hip joints are fragile things.

When we got our last pup it was stated in the contract that we should take them to our vet within 48 hours of collection to be health checked, if the vet found any problems a refund would be given and the pup taken back. Do you have anything like that?
 
Good suggestion I will ask that question.

They aren't kept on a slippery floor all the time - they have a large crate in the kitchen which has lino floor and are mostly in there. In this video they were in the sitting room which has a wooden floor but mostly covered by a large rug. I can't imagine they are ever left in there unsupervised as clearly not yet house trained!
 
What breed is pup. I will admit I am completely neurotic with my dog but yes agree with Clodagh - puppies on slippery floors would worry me if it is doing the splits!
 
I also agree with clodahs comments ,but assumed they were just there for a photo session and not kept in a living room....sorry if I gave impression that it's ok for pups to slip and slide on floors..it's not.
My pup came to me with three years insurance against hip dysplasia and several other genetic illnesses..I think she's the first breeder I've ever had that has offered me this cover in all my years of dog ownership.its given me huge peace of mind...my dogs just turned three and all we've dealt with was a small skin cyst removal.
Does this breeder offer any health insurance with the pup?
 
Pups are whippets so not a large heavy breed but quite delicate!

The breeder is offering the standard kc 6 weeks insurance only but pup presumably wouldn't be covered if this incident has caused injury as it would be an existing problem at the start of cover.

I might send a link of the video to my vet to ask what they think
 
Send the video to the vet. I would be very unhappy to see the pup doing the splits. Google the skeletal formation of young pups. It shows the bones aren't joined early on. When are you due to collect?
 
Bless my vet - she replied to my email after 10pm!! She thinks it might just be bruised but has advised me not to bring the pup home if I'm not happy with it in 2 weeks when we are due to collect her.

I have also emailed the breeder who has said she is fine and has said he will post another video for me.

Fingers crossed. ...
