You arrogant, rude, self centred idiots are why people don't like horses being on the roads.

Five horses, not one nod, wave, thank you or smile. The two that blocked the whole road riding two abreast, congratulations, you utter eejits.

I say thank you to everyone, so I know it's not painful. Going to find out the yard name and write directed to your YO so they know exactly how rude you idiots are.

But I'm just hoping some of you are on here and feel ashamed of how you behaved today on a busy main road.

Whilst I definately dont agree with not thanking drivers - I wouldn't be so hard on the 2 riding abreast. How do you know it wasn't a nervous horse /rider or youngster? AFAIK I'd rather be held up whilst they ride safely rather than have a horse skitting across the road...

I live on the albert road and have to drive through old windsor all the time my daughters school and childminder is there and pony on priest hill. And i have found exactly the same and have actually shouted out the window of the car when ive gone past slow and wide and got nothing. Its not hard to nod or even smile but nothing it really riled me and there horse was not being naughty and they were to busy chatting to bother thanking me!!! Even my 6 year old says thankyyou when out hacking, i find it sooo rude!!!

I agree you should say thank you but thats a bit OTT I think. Let them get on with it , if they're like that anyway i really dont think they'll take any notice of you speaking to their yard manager!

Dont waste your time!

If it's nervous, I'd advise against riding with washing line reins and nattering to your mate...
Maybe not the horse then but rider still could be... and they could have been nattering to keep them calm! You just never know the circumstances so i wouldnt be so quick to judge! But as i said, I agree that they should have thanked you at the very least.

PS I'm not from Old Windsor ;) :p

Well if you live in a posh part of the country what do you expect? You will get posh, stuck up their own arse riders.... move up north, we're not like that up here! LOL!!

Horse owners and riders are often stereotyped as rude and snobbish, but some people do nothing to change this opinion. It takes a split second to raise a hand and say thank you. I suspect people like this are rude and unmannered in everyday life.

Sorry to hear this. I always make sure I thank drivers who slow down when I am out riding on roads (and even those who only slow down slightly, the only ones I don't thank are those who act like they haven't even seen me and drive past at 100mph). However when i go out with my friends they tell me off for waving at drivers and tell me I'm embarassing them! I ignore this and tell them off for not thanking them! It does annoy me, particularly as one of my horses can be nervous on the roads so I am really gratefull to anyone who does slow down and want to make this really obvious to them so they will continue to slow down in future. It's no wonder some drivers get p*ssed off with horse riders on the roads and don't bother to slow down when the horse riders don't bother to thank or even acknowledge them when they do!

And for those defending the riders, the main road running through Old Windsor is a busy busy road so definitely no excuse at all for not showing some consideration for drivers.

Infuriating! Can't be doing with rude riders at all - they wind non-horsey drivers up and put all of us at risk IMO:mad:
