I spoke to my insurers who have said im well within reason to put in a claim for this?

I sound totally thick but i never considered this (i only rang up to cancel my policy)

Has anyone claimed for this? what did you have to send off?

Without sounding awful, the money would help to pay off the remaining vet bills if im able to claim - else quite honestly id walk away.

thanks

Currently going through this myself, speak to your insurers and see what they need.
Mine wanted all medical history and a full vets report. Also check your policy as some will not pay out if you made the decition to have them PTS (stupid i know!) a vets report stating the problems etc should be enough im guessing though x

Thanks

I figured this - they have ongoing claims still even though shes alredy gone... but i know the vet was with me when we called it a day so that should be enough?

I will talk to my vet again

does it take long to go through?

i wasnt expecting (nor am) expecting anything....but some to pay the huge vet bill i have would be good right now.

Mines still ongoing and he died 14th sept! Still waiting for the vets to get a move on, i also forgot about any money but also will help pay for cremation etc x

It has to fall under BEVA guidelines in order to claim under this section. That is what the vet would have to confirm - ie that the horse could not have continued to live out it's days in a field on painkillers. The vet essentially has to state that the horse needed to be PTS to avoid suffering and that it was the only humane thing to do.

I won't lie, it can be a struggle if the horse didn't technically NEED to be PTS but that is where you need the vet to state that it did.

^^ interesting, this is what i thought. I take if most colic cases they have no arguement with? Mine actually died of heart failure at the vets 5 minutes before we got there. (He also didnt have history of heart problems) ..

Thanks ^ thats what i figured - she mentioned the BEVA bit (insurers)

imo - my horse wouldnt have been comfortable for the rest of her days - but very difficult to prove in the eyes of insurers but common sense and welfare prevail ...?

If she was covered for loss of use (agin i didnt cover for this)... i would definately have a claim as she was no longer able to fulfil her career as a riding horse... but i didnt cover for loss of use....i will however for the pony i have now as she is a show horse (So they tellme !) and will be fairly valuable as an older horse.

Nfu paid out my claim with no issues. My lovely vet took it into her hands and did it all for me! He had had an illness for several months which culminated in having him PTS so it was quite straight forward.

Ring your vet and ask if it met the beva guidelines. If she says no then there is no point as they will not uphold the claim.

the girl who i spoke to at the vets was lovely and said no problem in putting a claim forward for me.

Like i said if they are in the real world and have all the facts its very plain to see it was in the horse's best interests to have her pts... as my vet agreed with me.

If i dont get payout then its no issue as im not expecting anything... but would help massivly with the bills if i get her value back.
