Death of a Show jumper, Katie Simpson

Looks like the family had some concerns about contents. But the documentary will now be aired just at a later date.

The family have set up a trust to support families in similar situations in Katie's name.

I watched it in bbc I player. Wish she had confided with her sisters. Her mum. Her aunt. And her sister was married to him ? And she lived there? So sad.

I can't see how her sister could not have known that Katie was being abused in just about every way. A lot seems to have been done to keep her out of the press which I find rather odd.

I think what is important to remember about Katie's sister is that she is also Mr and Mrs Simpson's child and the mother of their grandchildren, who obviously deserve some privacy. It isn't beyond the realms of possibility that she was also under coercive control. I don't know how him treating her sister like that and the unusual living/relationship situation would have been tolerated otherwise TBH.

That's why the sister wasn't charged with anything, the police deemed she was a victim of coercive control

I’d assume the 3 women who covered up the abuse and attempted to cover up the murder are trying to block the documentary. They certainly seemed to get back to their lives pretty quickly with no apparent remorse or upset over Katie’s death. Didn’t one of them boast all over Facebook about her results at Blair while the trial was ongoing?! Beggars belief.

Finally watched it. Jill Robinson is a vile, I didn't have much respect for her before but her only emotion is about Johnny and how much she 'loved' him or when she talks about Johnny making her 'feel small' but admitting she didn't suffer anything like the abuse in her words 'Abi alledged' and no sympathy for Katie or Abi. I honestly think she still thinks he's innocent, and her sticking up for him makes me feel ill. She is deluded at best, as evil as him at worst.

I wonder what was taken out of this documentary at the request of the family.

The documentary would have been heavily edited due to time constraints, it takes hours upon hours of footage to get a few minutes content. I personally felt that she probably did talk a lot more about Katie and Abi and the whole situation, she would have been answering questions that they put to her, not her just randomly speaking.
Everyone spoke about how charming a person he was and how they loved him, even Abi Lyle's sister and the men he worked with.
Abi has actually praised her bravery for speaking in the Telegraph. It would have been extremely difficult and traumatic to be so vulnerable and talk about the past which has obviously been buried very deep.
Her interview was definitely needed in the doc to show what sort of control that man had, he was a monster! The police dect even said that he was controlling his police interview, and the other woman dect said he was openly flirting with them. There were so many similarities in the way he treated all the girls..shocking
I would be more concerned about the sister, she knew he was in bed with her that morning, there is no way she didn't know what was going on, the dect said that the sister was saying nothing and was standing by him and was the 4th person reported to the pps for charges and more charges than two of the women (Jill and Rose)...doesn't make sense.

Just watched on iplayer. Heartbreaking. Such a lovely talented young lady.
The sister must have known what was going on. Also the two who cleaned up and washed the clothes should have been punished more.
I felt so sorry for Katie’s boyfriend who sent text messages. RIP.

I've just watched this and I'm glad I did but what an absolute monster.
It was strange to watch Jill Robinson, she's clearly a very damaged person but she didn't come across as particularly remorseful from what made the cut.
So lovely to see Abi Lyle achieving her dreams.

Jill Robinson sat there lying through her teeth throughout.

My take though is that she was a thoroughly indoctrinated cult member, and even now struggles to believe that he did any of the things he was accused of. So in her mind, defending him and lying about her involvement is justified.

Abi Lyle is one amazing lady!

I found the prominence of Jill Robinson throughout the whole documentary quite, I don't know what the right word is, troubling?! It was an odd choice to give her so much air time when, ultimately, she was convicted as playing a part in covering up what he did (recognising that yes, she was also purporting to have been coercively controlled too). The idea that she didn't find washing his bloody clothes even a tiny bit strange is baffling...

I've been a huge fan of Abi since long before I'd read about any of her personal history. She's a fantastic ambassador for dressage, and for women.

And what Abi Lyle was subjected to after Cresswell was jailed and then released was totally disgusting….
Think inquest will be A harrowing and B many people will be scared…

There are some new episodes of Murder at the Stables, the BBC podcast out this week and some next. The police officer who didn't give up is interviewed for them it seems as he's now no longer a serving officer and can speak out.

ETA was so pleased Abi won the HHO award 🙌🏼

I know little about the case other than literally just been watching the first 2 of the 3 episodes of death of a show jumper .
What a vile piece of work he is and appalled at how his connections closed ranks around him.

Also feel sick about the dead horses found on his yard and the allegations that he deprived them of feed/water to make them submissive.

Also echo how brave Abi is.
