Hi all,

Just wanting peoples opinions on the horsey stuff in Decathlon. Am particularly after some cheap, everyday breeches but love bargains in general. My nearest Decathlon is Lakeside so nearly an hour away so are there bits worth the drive? They seem to stock loads of horse stuff on there website but whats the range like in their shops? (Wouldn't want to get there and there be just a small range). Thoughts?

The decathlon in Stockport, Cheshire has two aisles of horseyness! The clothing is average (Naylor's or Robinson's have much better range) but decathlon is brilliant for cheap basics (jods, boots, gloves etc...) Kids plain kids are about £10! For something special or posh I wouldn't go there but for day to day, its great. Hope that helps x

Jodhs are great, have never had any other brand. Do not get gloves from there though, they're awful- mine get holes in them almost straightaway.

To be fair their gear isnt too bad.

However, the leather stuff (bridles mainly) take a while to soften - the riding wear is decent quality but to be fair you can get better online.

Whats advertised online and whats instore can vary an awful lot - unless you're going to a store where theres others you want to buy from ie Ikea, furniture stores then i'd look elsewhere.

I too like the jods, I had some of the jod boots but they hurt my feet where the outside of my foot met the stirrup, probably had too small stirrups though in retrospect as was riding ponies (ah younger thinner days).

Equestrian clearance bargin basement jods in grey AMD Brown for £8 say assorted but are always decathalon. They are great at that price for everyday jods.

I like the jodhs and have gloves and half chaps from them that are good too. Better than robinsons own brand stuff. Some of the general outdoor gear is good for riding in too. I love the silk glove liners.

Take a look at their rugs, I am pleased with them in a range of thicknesses, and also like their casual ladies gear. A good range not just for riders in my opinion and never a quibble when taking things back.

Love their jodphurs. Quite possibly the comfiest things ever!

Went to lakeside branch yesterday; they started to sell Roeckl gloves now.

Needy loves their berry puff treats too!

And as someone has just there is a go outdoors just over the way too.

My horses are in France and if I need something in a hurry decathlon is the place I go. There fly rugs where ok and don't just look at the horsey gear as you can get bargain fitted jumpers and ski socks too. I really like it and you can park outside the shop and then pop down the steps to the Nike shop and tk max. That's what I do but be warned it gets soooo busy in the car parks !

I like decathlon and use a lot of their stuff, own a girth, a few rugs, headcollars etc. It's cheap and cheerful, good for everyday.

However the jodhpurs I can't stand ? I bought one pair and I didn't expect them to last forever but I paid 25 quid for them (could have got some cheaper on ebay) and they wore in a few months, with only a few washes & a few rides a week.

The riding socks, whips, treats etc. are good though. I also buy brushes, and any small things there. I think their horsey care items are good though (mane sprays, shampoos etc.). I usually go once a year and stock up on such items :)

We go to ikea and do all the stuff round lakeside and go there. I only get rider gear and numnahs from there. Although have a look at body protectors by smart rider on their site. It says they're beta level three but there actually isn't a beta purple label on them...

There stuff is good but our local Decathlon, which is a very large store, only has 1 side of an aisle for horsey stuff, not a lot to be honest, not like the website. Perhaps worth phoning the store you want to visit to see how much they actually stock.
