Hi guys - just looking to see what different things people use for their horses.

Im not really into all this topline conditioning stuff as im sure that it goes down to the exercise program rather than so called conditioning feeds.

I just wondered what cheap feeds you use to feed your horse that may not be that conventional.

Just looking for ideas really.

Thanks.

I have used the pegasus grass nuts. They seem just like high fibre nuts....Im not sure if they are a nationwide thing or just from frontier??

I think they are less than £5 a bag.

When I got my horse he was on Baileys No. 2 Working Horse & Pony Cubes and No.8 Meadow Sweet with honey and Hi-Fi Lite.

I went to the feed merchants on day and the owner said that their own brand of cubes was made by Baileys and at £4.50 a bag was much cheaper. I bought a bag to try and looked at the ingredients and sure enough they were identical!

I stopped with the Meadow Sweet as it was costing a fortune and he is a good doer anyway and I couldn't see what benefit it was giving him, he hasn't dropped any condition and still has a shiny coat and plenty of energy (sometimes too much!) so that's it now, own brand Cubes and Hi-Fi Lite. He has a splash of supermarket oil and some garlic and carrots or apples when I remember to get them! Have calculated that he costs less to feed per week than my cats! It's worth talking to your feed merchant as they may have own brands that are the same as the major manufacturers or indeed made by them. I do miss the Meadow Sweet though as it smells fantastic when you open the bag!!!
