I have taken on a horse and she has a quarter crack in her back hoof (she suffered neglect previously) it basically stretches from the coronet band right down and is quite wide. The rest of her hooves are in very good condition, no cracks.
I keep her on livery at my work but their farrier only comes once every 2 weeks and always has a massive list of horses to see too.... I've read about quarter cracks online and believe given time and effort that they can be mended but he reckons that sticking a shoe on will be fine and that she'll have the crack forever.... anybody know of a decent farrier who would be willing to invest the time in my lovely mare? She is lame at the moment on that foot, it is being treated as an abcess on recommendation from the vet. I just really want to get her right after her poor start in life. I'm based in Angus and am new to the area, thanks!

farriers up here are stretched and not many taking on extra clients from what ive heard... there was a new one came up a while ago that lady caroline from kinnaird part funded i believe to encourage him to the area....

i will pm you

whereabouts in angus are you ?? where you keep your horse ?
my farrier is great , he is very busy though , not sure if he would be taken more clients on but depending on where u are can pm you his details . x

Scott Campbell, I highly recommend him. PM me for his number if you want. He's very busy though so can't guarantee he's taking on any more work. Definitely worth a try though. The only other farrier I know of around here I wouldn't spit on if he was on fire..
