hello all,

looking for a decent saddler who covers the West Midlands (Worcester specifically).

preferably one who carries 2nd hand saddles and is happy to do adjustments to current saddles rather than one who only sells brand new.

thank you!

Hi Millitiger, when my saddler died I asked for recommendations on this forum as I needed another saddle.

Someone recommended John at Horse & Country (01902 847788).

I have never actually had him out due to continuing problems with my horse which meant there has been little point in a second saddle. However, I did give his details to a friend who contcted him about 8 weeks ago. She was very impressed with both his knowledge, the amount of time he spent with her horses and his professionalism and said she would recommend him to anyone.

I think he's based in Wolverhampton but apparently travels quite far - my friend is in Hinckley - so it may be worth giving him a call.

I would suggest Bromsgrove Saddlery http://www.bromsgrovesaddlery.co.uk as an ideal starting point. Miles is very competent and has an excellent reputation. He will also come out to your yard and flock your saddle in front of you which is really great. He has done this with a number of people on our yard, my own saddle included. However if you can get yourself and your horse down to Solihull Riding Club I can unreservably recommend HorseSense Saddlery 01564 778899 - speak to Lizzie. She is (I believe) a qualified Saddler Fitter and she has fitted a number of saddles to horses on our yard, including my own horse, both second hand and new. HorseSense also offer an excellent after sales service. They are the home of the Elevator bridle and have been round for a number of years.

i used to use (many many moons ago!) A&J saddlery in southam....and found them good :)
pretty sure he'll travel and used to alwyas have a good stock of 2nd hand

i recently bought a saddle off a guy in Walsall. i paid £550 for a brand new made to measure saddle which has improved my horses way of going amazingly! he will adjust the seat and knee rolls to suit the use of your saddle, PM if you want his number (i know you said you wanted 2nd hand but he really is amazing!)
here is a photo of the GP he made for me x

I can tell you who not to use!!! Will PM her details if you want as I have had a bad experience and so has a friend!!! Both in the last 6 months. The service to sell you a saddle was great but after service was non existant and had to get another person out to put it right at further cost to me!!

please PM bad experiences to me!

i have used Horsesense before when i bought my Jaguar dressage saddle but i haven't really got that budget at the moment :(

the Bromsgrove one looks promising.

will look up John at Horse & Country thank you.

Rachel- i will send you a pm.

I think you are on about the same person as who I have heard is a nightmare too. She has caused no end of problems with saddles and incorrect fits on our yard.

I have a friend who also swears by him.
However, 18 months back, I asked him for advice about my horse's saddle and wanted a MTM show saddle.....he was extremely rude about me (at the time I was quite big) and made several very personal comments under his breath (but plenty loud enough for me to hear!) which ensured I took my £950 to someone else for a Black Country saddle!

I would heartily recommend Andy Wheals (via the Master Saddlers website) BUT he doesn't carry second hand saddles - he makes purely to measure however is very reasonable.

I use Jo Beavis, though she does mainly new she does occasionally have some second hand available...she has done a great job for me in recent years. Used to use A and J in southam, he's fine and Horsesense are good as well. Please PM me if you would like her number...
