I’ve always fancied having a few lessons on a trained western horse, as I’ve never ridden western before and it looks fun. Does anyone know of any decent places with well trained horses in southern England? Don’t mind travelling for the right place, I’m not a beginner and would want a reasonably experienced trainer/horse. I promised myself I’d have more fun this year!

If you're up for travelling then I definitely recommend Sovereign Quarter Horses, I believe they're currently booking several months in advance.
There's also southern school masters and burley villa school of riding, both on the south coast.

I rode Western in USA. But people looking for Western in the UK should be aware that in the UK and even more in Germany quarter horses are bred and used for competitive Western riding, including barrel racing and sliding stops. OH and I were shocked by the show we went to in Kent.

A couple of friends have enjoyed regular lessons here. I’ve no personal experience.

My sister and BiL have done holidays / cattle drives multiple times at this place.

What do you mean by that? What was shocking about it? Except that QH are a bit weird to look at, to my eye! I'd like to try riding one though.

On a completely unrelated note to the OP's actual question, I was thinking about trying Lunga Riding Stables near Lochgilphead while we're on holiday later this year - so please PM me if anyone has any feedback on a yard at the opposite end of the UK!

Dartmoor riding holidays are fab, lots of fun too.
Amber is cow horse x reining horse in her breeding and she can do stops and spins etc. That's part of the fun :D
She is finally showing signs of learning to tolerate cows, the plan of trying that in her late teens is looking on track ;)
