Just wondered what the livery yards where like around Reading? Thinking more south reading (Theale etc) and what are the competitions like around there?
Why don't you PM Charlie76. I bought my beloved Ella (black mare in my signature) from her riding school which is just outside Reading. She will probably be able to help you.
Not sure about Reading as I'm in Thatcham and the horse is just out of Basingstoke but there's quite a lot on. Depends on what you want to do really - you're not far from Tweseldown and places like that.
The only place I know of is Cullinghood in Pangbourne.
Im sure there are others unfortunatly im east of Reading so really only know that area. Having said that I may be looking further your way in the next few months.
charlie 76's yard is where I I learnt to ride and I understand it is still very good and they do liveries now if I remember correctly. It's in Tilehurst /Sulham.
Blimey!!!! So did I!!!!!!35 years ago!!!! Cough!!!Where did you live? Small world isnt it!!!!!!!!
Personally I wouldnt keep a horse there due to the traffic. I would go towards "The Croft" at Padworth with loads of fantastic riding plus good facilities. This is an expensive yard. But the off road riding is the best.
There are also yards at Upper Basildon and Bradfield which are just outside Theale. There are cheaper yards around but depends where yoiu want to go. Silchester is close to Englefield Estate which is just miles of off road riding. I know of a DIY yard there. What facilities do you need or want?
I'm in Reading too and know a few yards. PM me the details of what you're looking for (DIY/Part/Full, facilities etc) and I'll see what I can suggest. Also been looking recently so know where there are vacancies.
I rode at Hall Place many years ago, too! I really liked it there, but there is a lot of road work.
You might consider trying Hampshire, at the Reading end. I used to keep my neds at a private yard on the edge of Bramshill forest and it was absolutely beautiful there, with fab forest rides. You did have to buy a permit to ride, but it was reasonable and well worth it. There's also the benefit of Wellington nearby!
There are loads of yards in that area. I used to keep my horses at Hardwick stud livery in Whitchurch on Thames. It's a very friendly place with amazing hacking.
The comps in the area are good. I used to do BSJA so spent a lot of time at blewbury, yately (spelling?)etc
