Lunging and just getting on and off my mare.

She broncs when you ask her to move forward! quite spectacularly so you fly off!

Last 3 or 4 times she has been worked i had just been getting on and off and sitting for a few moments, i am hoping she will soon relax enough that when asked to move off, doesnt go nuts!

everyone is going to ask if you have checked her back and saddle....
But other than that :

Have you tried bare back - Yes it does mean you have not much to hang on to!
Have you tried a weighted dummy??

Have you tried long lining? Might be a safer way of getting her used to moving forward by herself?

Good luck and stay safe!

Interesting thread this as we have had the same problem at times.

Our mare freezes and does the TB stare into the distance thing lol

How old is your horse? Sounds almost certain if there is definitely not pain that she needs to go back to basics and taught to move forwards again. I agree with the long reining. I have only known babies started that way and none of them have ever napped. It teaches them to be more independant, think for themselves and go forwards wherever you ask them to go.

We had one like this, lovely horse in every other way, but dropped you when asked to trot - figured he had learned this before we got him - so called unbroken.
We passed him on to a really good rider who still has him, but he still drops her occasionally.
You need a lot of nerve as well as skill for this type of learned behaviour!
