Decided to try and improve my position

So I booked a lesson on a simulator. It should be noted that this is designed for the dressage rider.

The lesson was very interesting as rather than just getting an instructors view you get a computer analysis that is very acurate and the readings show this.

It tells you if you are infront or behind the movement, sitting left/right and if you acelerate or hinder your horses movement. It also shows how strong/varied your rein contact is. It even tells you how long it takes to recover during flying changes.

I got a graph analysis to show my movement per stride, to refer back to.

I was struggling with my youngsters left canter lead and was concerned that I was hindering him, I am pleased to say that I was not and now I am more confident to ask him for left canter (with a little kick instead of a nudge) and he now is getting the correct lead. It is not 100% yet but it has improved ten fold.

Just thought I would share it with you as a different aproach to lessons.

Ooh, i'm looking forwards to my turn... my friend booked me a simulator lesson for my birthday, just have to find a day when i can fit it in.
That is near Stansted.

It was in Ashen on the Essex / Suffolk borders. It takes me 2 hours to get to the top of the A14 with the M6. IF you want the details of the place pm me as I dont know if I can put them on here as it might be seen as advertising

Yes my friends daughter had some there and it was great, unfortunitally they dont analyses your movement. However her daughters riding has improved and she loved it there and keeps gonig back,

The basic lesson was £30 for 20 mins and the next one was £40 for 30 mins (I had this one) as I got my first read outs then the instructor suggested improvements and I got an improved read out.

Oh right, well I'm going to give it a go and then maybe if I want to try it again I could go to the place you did.... mind you my analysis would probably go on forever and ever about what i'm not doing correctly!!

I thought that too but when you start to correct one thing it helps the others you will be surprised

My friend did a core stability test for her research project - video analysis of people of the riding stimulator, position compared to the strength of their core.
I did it for her and I loved the simulator. So nice to be able to think completely about your position.
Also the simulator is aparently based on horses with large movements so can help people who are unbalanced by a large moving horse.
Might trade in the real thing for one, just think no more early starts, riding in all weathers, just plug in and off you go!!!

Im so pleased you posted this, I was looking at going to Ashen and having a go at this for something different to try.

Im glad you found it useful, i will make an extra effort to go now.
