A big thank you to all of you who took the time to offer support and experiences when I posted about troubles with my young horse. I made the decision to part with him....very hard to do....but he's gone to a lovely lady and not too far away.

I'm also on the mend from my close encounter with the road...still hobbling about but back at work.

I learnt a lot during this process and my days of having young horses are over! Lol. I'll be taking my time to find another one but wondered what you all thought of the type I'm considering. I'm about 5'8" and around 15 stone. I have liver failure and steroids are responsible for my expanding waist line....grrrrr! Anyway, I need a weight carrier, 15.2-16hh and 8 yrs plus I thought. I think I prefer a mare but I'm happy to judge each on their own merits. Maybe an irish draught or draft x type. Is there anywhere you'd recommend I look. A pure irish draught maybe out of my price range.

I'm happy to have another cob too, but it's finding them at the height I want. I think I'm looking for a been there, done that who's looking for a quieter life. Anyone got one? Lol

Thanks folks, some lovely horses there and kinda what I'm looking for. Tried one today but she wasn't for me sadly.

I'm tempted to go and see Janet George and her lovely pure bred irish draughts.
 
Where are you based only I know someone who would be worth talking to if you are in North West. You could also find her on Facebook, she's got a couple of lovely cobs for sale at the moment. I've not bought from her myself but I know plenty who have and they have been as described. PM me if you'd like her name.
 
I have Alfie available for permanent loan, if you aren't too far away. Absolute gentleman on the ground and to be ridden and at 17hh the only problem you will have is finding a suitable mounting block!

He is Swedish Warmblood, mid teens. He was bought for a novice rider to take up eventing (yes, quite) and was novice eventing at the age of 7. Clearly too young because he went slightly lame and it didn't get any better, so he was signed over to me a couple of years ago. He has been on turmeric for a couple of months and is sound on the lunge now :).
 
Good news of a sort - I'm sad you've had to sell your horse, but it was the right thing to do and I know you agonised over the decision, so I'm really pleased you found the right home for him.

Thanks GH. I'm not one for horse shopping so this will be a chore. I just find it so hard to trust people and what they say. I'm trying to do my homework as best I can and I'm looking for a weight carrying cob/draught type around 15.2 - 16hh. I'm fine with an older horse needing a new home and it must be good in traffic. Doesn't sound too hard to find....but it kinda is! lol
 
Her horses look fab and her reputation is above question. I'm just not sure I'd do one of hers justice. I'm just looking for a happy hacker.
 
I'm really sorry I missed your original post. I've just seen it. How horrific for. You. I hope you're going to make a full recovery.

I totally know where you're coming from. Have been having issues with my rearing 4yr old. He was being rehomed on Monday but after lots of crying I've got him checked by the vet and ia lame so I'm going to get him fixed, hopefully and hope that fixes his rearing. If not I'll have to make a decision. Rehomed or pts. Or live as my pet if he's not in too much pain

Really hope you're boy has a great life. You get fixed and find a nice quiet horsey x

Ooh, I know exactly what you mean! I last went horse shopping 10 years ago, and did everything they say you should do - took my time, looked at lots of different horses etc. I bought my horse from people I knew through a friend, tried him out, took advice from an instructor who also tried him - I still got stung! (I did buy with my heart rather than my head, though)

I'm sure you'll find the right one. Why not go and see Janet anyway? Maybe one of hers wouldn't do you, but she might just have 'the one' or know someone else who does. :)
