As you all know I currently have 3 horses.

Bertie, old retired duffer who is having an easy life (very well thanks to coligone) and is fully retired...

Winston, diagnosed with ringbone, hadnt been lame due to his condition but suffered the whole of last eventing season with bruised soles arghhhhh..

Snoop project pony to be sold in the spring....or so i thought.

Now, over the past month I have been thinking what i really want to do with the gang, obviously Bertie is retired although will still cost me in feed, insurance and livery.
Snoop is a total dude and a joy to have on the yard, completely adore him, he has a very bright future ahead of him and trainer has commented that this horse could put me firmly on the map. However, one small problem.....I was meant to sell him come the spring to make some money.
But since riding him I have found that this horse is just like riding a younger bertie, incredibley brave, just loves to jump and puts in 200% into everything (although personally i would settle for 100% ).
Then theres winston, I could if i didnt love the big man to bits put him up for sale (and he wouldnt be worth much now due to his ringbone) or out on loan but he would have only gone to 2 ppl who IMO are capable of riding him but unfortunately they both live miles away and it would be like selling him

SOB! (god I wish I wasnt so soft).
As I cannot afford to run two horses, if i chose to event winston, snoopy will have to be sold. But then again, how long will winston stay sound, hes 12 this time so although not at all over the hill, another season of hard ground could put pay to him being sound later in life.
I have now decided, becuase I cant bear for snoop to be sold (yet anyway) that I will stick to pure dressage on the big fella doing the odd combined training (spillers) and work our way through novice and Elementary.
That way, snoop can go BSJA, and have more training. I will am to do BYEH and may do the odd BE event over the summer but in all honesty unless i can afford it he will stick to SJing....
Im a BE member until June, so I can alway buy some tickets for snoop to compete on as I do think he will be an awesome eventer too as he has no fear of water or ditches.

So there you have it, hence why im not eventered for stilemans.

Its a bit sad, due to that fact I wont be eventing the big man again, well not for this season. Quite excited to see how our BD goes tho - hes only done 2 BD events with me before and we already have 7 points
grin.gif
so thats something to look forward too.
Also the snoopmister has his first BSJA show this weekend - YIKES! hopefully they will look smaller after watching the GP at the premier show on friday night lol

Right okay im rambling...

Your thoughts? do you think im doing the right thing? I hope so. I just cant see another way of affording to compete and train them all.

Thanks

I can see exactly where you are coming from!! As you know J is now limited in what he can do and R is too young to do much ATM. Keep debating to sell R and buy something older but then I haven't got time to keep 2 horses going myself.

So I am going to part loan J eventually.

Could this be an option for you and Winnie, if you could find someone to part loan Winnie, he would be a fantastic schoolmaster, you could still do a bit of dressage with him and any financial contribution your sharer makes could go towards snoop?

I thionk you're doing what is right for you...and that's what matters

It's a nightmare paying the running costs for two (let alone three !). You can always change your mind somewhere along the way too...nothing is cast in stone

Sounds like a plan
grin.gif
and the best thing about plans is they can change if you want them to!

Hhm any excuse to get in to Sjing?

Yes your def doing the right thing. I think with Winnie's problems it might be kinder to at least give him one season off.
The only thing I'd do personally is join Snoopy for BE (especially as you're a member) and get out and do some intros on him. You said yourself he's brave etc and you love BE far more than BSJA
tongue.gif
It's much more fun.
I know money is tight but come on Viks we're going to be 30 this year there's time when where're older for sj or dressage. Get out there now girl!
I saw Twigs and Lec on Friday and we were all commenting how we were getting older and there was certain things we wanted to do. For me before I'm 30!!!!
Good decscions and def don't sell Snoop!!!

i think you are definately doing the right thing. It really sounds like youve sorted it out in your head which is great. I didnt realise you brought snoop to sell on
frown.gif
You definately CANT do that!!

I sort of know how you feel, as having two fit competition horses is taking its toll on me right now, especially as Bloss's so-called isnt turning out to be as good as i thought (or as helpful). Poor Bloss hasnt competed for ages when my agreement with them was that they compete her at least 2times a month BD. However they never bother to enter her, and i was doing their entries, but ive given up now as they kept pulling out last minute. Anyways, i digress.........

So good luck for Winnies BD, im sure he is going to love it, and you are definately going to become the next HHO dressage queen!!

And i hope Snoops first BSJA goes well this weekend too, i want a full report on monday morning!!

Sounds like very wise decisions to me. As you know, I had to choose to retire B from eventing and whilst it was so tough, at least theres no wasted money or hopes

Really pleased that Snoopy is a stayer though, looking forwards to seeing his progress!!

Are you absolutely convinced that only two people in the world would be suitable to loan Winston? How about finding someone local to you who would be able to keep him with you and pay towards his running costs. That way they need not be the perfect person as you would be around to keep an eye on them.

It is obvious from your post that you are really not keen on selling Snoopy, so perhaps this would be a way around it.

Interesting, hadnt thought of part loaning winston.
Its just finding someone who I think is good enough for him.
Had the main person who I wanted to loan him not lived hours away he would have gone to her in a shot because he would have the best life and IMHO she rode him brilliantly. Equally I know she wouldnt have been tempted to jump him or belt him around the countryside - hence why I wont loan him to just anyone.

ATM its only money that is stopping me eventing them both, and although winnie and i have had our set backs his SJing is just getting better and better - TYPICAL!

Umm something to think about - thanks

How is J now?

Im doing what is right for my bank balance lol

I think thats what makes it easier to swallow, that i can change my mind....

Thanks

Sounds like you have given this plenty of thought and you have to do what is right for you.

Can I ask why you still insure Bertie? If he does go hacking etc then your BD/BE membership gives you third party cover, granted you dont have the security of having any vets fees covered etc but could that be a way to possibly save some of the outgoings? Guess it depends on how you weigh up the risk.

I know exactly what you mean, as I'm in a similar position myself, unfortunately it looks doubtful that my horse will ever come right.

Oh to be rich eh?!

This is what happend when Bertie went lame, he was in his 20 mind you, so I bought something cheep off the race track.
But at that time i had both horses at home - so no livery costs.

I wont tell you what Im ordering today then LOL

Sounds like a good plan to me, and perhaps you would be able to get a part loan, sharer for winston so you get to keep him and look after him someone else basically pays you some money to ride him.
Good luck .

Ahh Lisa, I really want to event, but it will really just depend on money lol
Really want snoop to be the next best eventer but training is costing more an more. I need to get him out schooling - god I havent even thought about doing dressage on him yet lol

I cant believe entries are now open for events...... but i guess theres no rush i can event him in May if i have too.

Please stop reminding me Im gonna be 30 this year *arghhhhhhhhh* how depressing.... next i will be looking for someone younger to ride my horses lol

Might be a good option if you can find the right person, something to think about anyway.

J is far more comfortable on his feet, vet out to reassess in a fortnight. Out hacking at the moment, difficult to tell how sound his is when he has 2 gaits: sideways and bucking
crazy.gif
.... and I am deluding myself that someone may want to share him LOL!

[/ QUOTE ]

No not really lol there are ppl far more capable than me to ride him.....just dont know anyone.

It would be an ideal to find someone who could ride and compete him at BD but who isnt gonna get itchy feet cos they want to jump and hoon around the countryside.

Umm perhaps I will put the word out, could def do with some extra cash to pay for snoopys training, plus obvioulsy im having to add to my SJing equipment
wink.gif

It is depressing - lol I've been really down about it lately. Where has that time gone? I still feel like I'm in college with no responsibilites.............

ARGHHHHHHHH why cant you move closer *SULK*

I think doing the PAVO and BYEH sounds very sensible and that BSJA is perhaps kinder to young horses than eventing. Winston sounds highly competitive at dressage so you should have fun and it is a lot cheaper than eventing in every way. I am sure it will be fine - thank god for direct debits!!

you have alot on your plate hun and sounds like you have thought long and hard and come up with the best option for you and your boys.
luckily my new job pays a bit more so i have put on brave face and joined BSJA and BE (who incredibly gave me huge discount for missing last season!!!!) but i am not sure how i will get on with entries, training, and now running a home gulp! good old mum gets her pension this april and she has put it forward for training -hopefully- so that will help.

Good luck with your boys, i wouldn't rule out loaning winnie out if you found right home maybe dressage person that would help you alot without his costs and there are alot of loving knowledgable, homes that just can't afford to buy something quality like him......

I do hope to see you maybe at an event this season
x

Great news you are riding him again - albeit risky lol

Sounds like my daily routine, get on and hold on tight. Snoop is easier atm than winston who is a complete brat! At the present time I cant see anyone wanting to ride the big man - although hes a complete angel in teh school or on the way out for a hack but comign home even after nearly an hour out he grows horns and squeels and bucks at anything and everything - he knows its nearly eventing season
frown.gif
poor love....

I do hope J comes right with careful hoof management. The silcone really helped winston although they seems to cause him countless infections last year - think the heat was a factor for him tbh as the year before he coped fine.
I totally swear by the aluminum shoes, if bertie wasnt crippled with arthritis he would be sound!

I actually had to count up the years last year cos i couldnt believe I was 29 - total shock

Im thinking of going to london for a posh supper - do you fancy celebrating together?

Hey lec - sorry havent replied to your email - I guess this explains most of it lol - shall reply in a bit - boss is around arghh!!

Winston is great at dressage, but he will require training occasionally which costs a bomb - hey ho!

I just need a rich guy now
wink.gif

Hey hunny!
Nice to hear from you.
Yeah maybe there is someone out there for him.....

Ark at you all grown up, house and fella - woo hoo!

Great news, shall hopefully see you around the circuit this year, you gonna do aston again?

I think you are!!

Its sad isnt it, esp B when you know hes so capable...

At least you have super cool Moon and newbee to cheer you up.

Fanks, I hope snoop turns out to be the star he should be too.

Aston - um if i can face it and if the water fence isn't in!!! who knows....

Bless him though he won on saturday combined training, did best dressage test ever done think he has grown up with all the time off - plus new saddle!! flew round sj was bit too small for him thats bit worry about pn eventing think i will have to be brave and upgrade him to nov fairly early on!

mmm grown up - will i ever!! fella is learning quick and even came to watch me BSJA other wkend so hopefully no scared him off yet!!
