Hi all, so it can't be denied that Christmas is very close and I was wondering which of you were going to decorate your stables and how? I have some batter operated holly LEDs to put round stable door and will probably put a star above. What about you guys?

It can be very much denied that christmas is very close.

and no, he'd eat it. It's bad enough keeping him off the tinsel and fairy lights for riding out christmas day.

We cannot understand you when you mumble. Go away and come back in December!

Ooooh Xmas day hack with tinsel .. now thats got me excited for Xmas :D

No OP I wont be doing anything like that at my stables apart from riding with tinsel wrapped round the mare on Xmas day (god help me!)

No way, my mare would eat it too!!

I am going on a Christmas fun ride soon though, I am Santa and Spirit is Rudolph - pics to follow ;-)

I don't decorate my stable but do have a santa style hat cover and reindeer antlers for M that I'll dust off for a pre-christmas hack.

There are 42 days till Christmas! That's really not that long. My mare didn't try to eat the green and red lights when she got shown them and she will notoriously eat anything that doesn't have a pulse! :D

I have an undecorated artificial wreath on front stable gate and lights along top of stables by guttering. Anything else gets eaten or pulled off. The kids will decorate some plastic milk bottles with permanent marker pen which have some small holes for treats to fall out and that’s it ....

No Cristmas is not near, it is at least 5 weeks away, but I am a total grinch. Refuse to wear Christmas jumpers. Don't buy presents for my ponies, dogs and cats - on the grounds that they really don't know it is Christmas.

But last year I did buy a signing reindeer head to hang up at the stables, I bought in on Christmas Eve when it was massively reduced and because I thought it would be funny to see pony reactions. Predictably they take absolutely no notice of it at all.

42 days is freakin ages :p

honestly stabled ponies and cables are a bad mix :p they do like to find their own entertainment.

How high can she reach, could you string them across the top of the door/front of stable?

Oh so exciting! This will be our first Christmas at home with the ponies i hadn't even though about decorating their stables... But I will now! I think a nice big star in their hay barn would be lovely.. Now to persuade OH. :)

Don't decorate the stables but will make a holly wreath for the feedroom door.

Pony will be wearing a white diamante blingy browband from December 1st .....
and, best of all, I've found some sleigh-bells that we'll use when we deliver christmas cards :) .

Mine would be petrified he nearly had a breakdown coming back from a hack the other day as there was a Halloween banner on the gate! God forbid it had moved it was clearly lying still ready to pounce on him.

So no i will not be doing anything on his stable or him! When I was younger I had a horse Santa hat with ear holes and would put that on my loan pony along with some Xmas Velcro leg wraps.

We don't even have a tree up at home as the cat goes anywhere and everywhere and would destroy it! I want to for the potential you've been framed and you tube comedy moments!

I am very bah humbug about Xmas and was shocked there are already Xmas dedicated radio stations live!

I'm not decorating the stable as he would no doubt eat it, but I'm buying some sleigh bells for when we go out driving. I'm not a big christmas person, but even I can get on board with sleigh bells! :biggrin3: We were going to be dressing up and driving Santa to an event as well, but we've had to pull out due to injury. Next year I will though.

Decorate the stables? I don't even decorate the house. The only difference the horses will see is that I'm not here, Mr B gets time off and they are kept in on Christmas Eve because the local hunt will be around. My trusty K always does the horses for me for several days over Christmas and I suspect, because she is an absolute softy, that they will both get carrots (and she will get a nice Christmas box).

Well, I've been busy thinking of what to put in a certain persons xmas hamper :biggrin3: this shows the areas I'll decorate.

Now that's a proper fringe :D

It's not just the stables that get decorated, last year I arrived on Christmas Morning to find my friends had decorated DP by sewing baubles into his mane. Apparently he stood like a rock for them but as soon as I arrived he had a paddy because of course it was all my fault.

Well, I for one am very excited to decorate! She will have a stocking hanging on the grill at the front of her stable on Christmas eve for father christmas to leave some presents in. A lot of our liveries do the fairy lights with little battery packs etc. and I think I'll do the same. Gives the yard a lovely feel. I only wish I had room for her own mini Christmas tree!!

I have never decorated but had a lovely surprise one Christmas Eve, 2 girls from nearby called in with a huge bag of paper chains they had made, a little tree in a plastic pot with glitter and star attached and other bits and bobs which they had made, my husband dragged out the ladder and happily put it wherever they wanted it in the tack room only - must admit it all looked quite good

I think I am over cautious as I saw the most wonderful handmade wreath made of everything edible for a horse and all I could think of was a possible vet visit on Christmas day due to choke

Aww, we used to hang a stocking outside my daughters ponies stable on Christmas Eve when she was little. I'd sneak a pack of treats in before we left. Without fail y/o would add bits too!
I don't decorate though no! It gets trashed and I love decorations but hate actually doing them so don't do anything I don't need too!

Christmas Eve we will fill the manger with straw. Just in case. In the house will be mince pies and beer for Father Christmas and carrots for his reindeer.

Well not lic
king Christmas myself and would rather hibernate right through. But you can get battery operated lights to hang round the stable https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_...ttery+operated+chrsitmas+lights&_sacat=159889
or hand some vege mobile around for him to play with

I used to put up some decorations on my mare's stall, but my new boy is very mouthy and would probably try and eat them. Think I will pass! He will wear a Santa Hat though.
