I have recently moved my lad to a new yard. We have taken my friends old rubber matting with us but it seems to absorb his wee whereas at our last farm it sort of ran off the matting! He only has a small bed down and has a full muck out everyday but its really starting to smell! Its not so bad at the end of the day when his bed is up and matting can dry out but mucking out is starting to burn my nose hair! He is a quite wet and likes to trample poo into his bed. Do all you experienced deep bedders think it would work for him or would it just all become one bit wet pooy mess?! Opinions and advise welcomed! Thanks

The horse I used to share was quite a wet horse and box walked so made her bed into a disgusting mess. I found it was better with a deeper bed, easier to muck out and didn't smell as bad.

My girl tends to bury her poo, but I'm actually finding it is so much cleaner/less smelly on a deep bed. I also feel a little bad as have only given her a big bed this last week (only been in during day for summer) and she has been lieing down every day

Bless her.

Agree with Twizzel. I have one poo burying box walking bed trasher and one who is pretty wet and just mashes the edge of the bed into the rubber mats. They are on mats with a deep litter bed on the back half and now the bed has built up it's very easy to keep clean.

Ok thanks guys! I think I will try it for a while and see how it goes, he is out most days unless the weather is horrible and in at night so hopefully he can't trash it too much :worried: lol. Am I correct in thinking I make quite a big bed to start and just keep adding a bag on top every week?
