Hi, has anyone had experience of "deep bruising" on the foot?
My boy went quite lame two weeks ago, then came sound after shoe removed, poulticed for a few days (poss small bruise or nail bind as was shod 3 days before) and put back on as was sound. Stayed sound for 3 days and then went 1-2/10 lame in same foot. Took to vet yesterday as although no heat, no swelling, one week on still 1-2/10 lame.
Nerve block confirmed is in the foot and xrays clear. The vet has said that he thinks it is most likely deep bruising which can take upto 3 weeks or so to come out and isn't picked up with hoof testers as is deep in the foot. Bute for 4 days and then another 10-14 days of no work. If no better after this time then we will investigate further.
Does anyone out there have any experience of this type of bruising, what level of lameness etc did you have, recovery time etc? Also, anyone experienced a cold abscess, (apparently is basically an abscess but has no accompanying heat etc which you normally get with abscesses)?
Am slightly paranoid (!) and worried as same horse had a tendon injury on a different leg last year and lost my last horse to a puncture wound less than 2 years ago.

Thanks in advance!

Actually i had a horse with something like that, he was on off lame for about 8 weeks and he kept getting slight swelling in the fetlock, no abcess was ever found and it just righted itself...

sorry it's a TLC job............ and time

If me, you could try tubbing foot (hot salting water)and see if you this draws out the bruising quicker...........

deep solar bruising and abcesses is what my horse had, but he was so lame the vet thought it was a fractured pedal bone until x rays ruled that out. He has been on box rest since September, with heart bar shoes. Started riding on a soft suface 2 weeks ago, and turning out a couple of times a week for half an hour. He's due to have sole packs on in just over a week then he can go back out.
As above post said, its just time, and avoiding hard surfaces. Your horse isnt as lame as mine was so hopefully it wont be 5 months!

I had cannon bone bruising which didnt resolve itself for 8 weeks .Any bruising in the legs must still take same/similar time to repair ,then silly horse did his tendon.Hes now in hospital for hock fusion dont they just make you paranoid.Just take it really slowly the bruising will go its just time.
